Another hood question.

I have my hood ready to paint and put back on, I have removed all the old "pads/insolators/supports". My question I have some rubber, not sponge stuff that will fit on the two main supports real nice, can i use that instead of the sponge type stuff ?? ( it is raining nice in Arizona today)

I would guess it depends on how firm the rubber is, as the originals
reason for being so soft might be as a vibration absorber.

Just guessing...maybe someone might know a more helpfull answer.

I'll throw in my 2cents as well. the insulation on your hood is not only a sound/vibration deadener, but also a heat insulator. my only concern with using rubber would be what happens to it when it gets hot, will it droop? also, if you have to glue it to the hood, will the adhesive withstand the temperature as well. keep in mind it's 2 sources of heat; from above and from below! especially in arizona

Does any one know what they are made of> It looks real simaler to the gaskets for the heater and A/C boxes.

I would just order new sponge, they're cheap. I think hard rubber would show through the hood. The sponge rudders stay in pretty well without glue, the pressure between the supports and hood form lips on either side of the brace. I put new ones in my 69 15 years ago and used no glue, they're still there.

My body guy used regular rubber , he would not use the foam rubber stuff, he said he didn't like it. FWIW

I wonder if solid rubber would affect the paint, seems like the sun would heat that area up more than the rest of the hood since solid rubber wouldn't let air circulate under it.

Thats a interesting point, I really had no thought about the spong type pads absorbing the vibration, or the hot/cold effect on that hood. I just ordered a set, that way I don't have to do it again. Thanks for the info.
