ATTN crewcab owners...?

I need to know if there is a captured nut on the "c" pillar for rear shoulder belts(seat belts) or if the hole there is just a hole. I got this pic form a members build thread, you can see the hole circled in red that I am talking about. Thanks

haha, I guess 3 of the 4 I've had were just empty holes but they were 81-91 trucks. I forgot about that truck , maybe just the older trucks had a captured nut?

Re: ATTN crewcab owners...?

my 88 is just a hole but i think 90 or 91 they went with the shoulder belts...maybe federal safety standards mandated them by then and earlier yrs were a hole just in case...just speculating....dont know for sure...

Re: ATTN crewcab owners...?

my 85 has factory plug covers over the holes, pried one off, no threads. if your mounting seatbelts, i think a gr. 8 nut & bolt would be much stronger than a captive nut

Re: ATTN crewcab owners...?

I will make a plate with a welded nut to go behind the inner pillar and weld/rivet it to the body.

Re: ATTN crewcab owners...?

What I did was go to the wrecking yard, cut the plates with the nuts out of a suburban, cleaned up the plates, drilled 4 holes around the large hole in the sheet metal , fished it up with a piece of wire and welded it in. Good as factory.

Re: ATTN crewcab owners...?

Mine only had holes so here's what I did.

took a steel plate drilled a hole in the middle.

welded a lock nut to it.

Drilled several holes in my C piller.

Droped a string down the hole to pull up the plate with the nut on it. put a tack in it to hold while I threaded in the bolt to hold it tight to the piller and then plug welded the remaining holes.

then grind smooth. I was adding plastic trim so I wasn't real concerned how it look after words.

Re: ATTN crewcab owners...?

That is the idea I have, except I will make a plate a bit longer to spread out the load should something happen.

Re: ATTN crewcab owners...?

my 88 doesn't have it, but I got parts from a 91 that had the threads, if I Had been thinking I would've gotten the rear seatbelts as well.

I have a hodge podge of things going on in there. Seats and receivers are from a tahoe, and the shoulder belts are from a Chrysler mini van.
