Problem installing new bodymounts

Am in the process of installing the new rubber mount kit I got from Wes at Classic heartbeat - and have run into a small snag.

I have a about a 1/2 inch gap between the tub and the top of the mount at position 2 and 4.

I haven't tried sucking everything down tight yet - but this space worries me. I have the top on my truck - and the rocker boxes are in great shape. the doors are off - so I haven't checked door gaps.

looking at the mounts that I took out it seems that those two positions weren't real tight to begin with. as the mounts at positions 1-3-5 are all but collapsed and 2 and 4 are fine.

do I need to ship up the space ? suck everything down tight? anyone else run into these problems.!?!

Factory used shims in some body mount locations - did you have any and are you reusing them? They look like 3"x3" square 1/8" sheetmetal pucks...

You should also have the doors on because shimming those gaps affects A and B pillar gaps from what I remember.

yes I used the new 3x3 shims in the locations they came from - I also had some small shims installed at one of the locations - which i put back - everything is the way it came apart but it doesnt seem to want to lay flat.

Add shims to any gaps. If you just torque them down, it will distort the body, and change your door gaps.

Ok yeah if you have the original shims in I would put the doors back on first.

Then add shims to take up the space and torque down to spec. See what your gaps look like then add or subtract from there.

Do you have the factory assembly manual? There's a page in there that shows where to add ships to affect the gaps. I've seen the page posted to a thread around here somewhere.

When I did mine a few months ago I put the shims back in and still had about a 1/4" gap left. After I tightened everything down the doors still closed fine. I do remember that when I pulled the body mounts out of the good side, as soon as I had the mounts on the one side loose there was a gap at #3 and #4. Did yours loosen up that much before you removed the originals? Btw I used polyurethane mounts not rubber. Best of luck!

I would love to see that thread with the page on body shims, I did a search and could'nt find it. I'm working on door gap and body shims too.

I dont have a factory assembly manual, but I am looking for one now...

I guess I will get the doors back on (damn they are heavy), and kinda just play it by ear - I know I will end up having to make some extra shims though.
