My 68 3/4 ton 4x4 project
im currently restoring a 1968 k30 4x4 (single wheel back axle) longbed im putting the 72 grill on it. anyway was wondering if i should keep the original 327 4 bolt main in it or go with a cummins diesel. if yall are wondering im 2 toneing it blue and white lifting it 6 inch suspenchin lift 3 inch body lift and 38x12x17 boggers. any suggestions just let me know. ill put before pics up soon of before and after pics when finished.(might be a while) also restoring a 1985 cj8 almost done put pics up of that too.

Sounds like a good project. May want to check your 327 to verify as GM didn't make a 4 bolt 327. If your truck is a chevy, the 72 grill won't bolt up without changing fenders and such.

Sounds like a great project. Can't wait to see the pics. You can't go wrong with the cummins are you considering the 12v or 24v?

I have a 1st gen 12v that i am in the process of transplanting to a 1981 Dodge W250. What i love about this engine is that with the 373 gears it is getting 20 mpg because it doesn't have the larger fuel pump. You loose a little in the hp department, but with 160 hp and 400 ft/lbs of tourqe it will work fine for me. Oh and i almost forgot it was free!

Only you know what you want. You're talking about two completely different beasts that satisfy different needs. One is a lot of work and usually money and the other is already sitting in the truck. All I can say is a 12 valve 6BT is great,but you also can't beat a 327,especially a '68 truck 327. If original you most likely have an 010 large journal steel crank high nickle block.

i was told it was a k30 dont know i looked it up seems there are some k30 made back then and this is my first 67-72 restoring project iv done a couple 73-87 trucks/blazers.iv also done some jeeps (2 cj5s 2 cj7s and 3 cj8s including the one im working on now) iv did a 79 ford f250 and some hotrods/muscle cars.

I think that's a picture he snagged into his files. Your VIN probably starts out KE2xxx if it's V8 truck. The 2 is for 3/4t. GM made it's first factory K/30 in '77

i had a guy come look at it today and he said it would be better to keep the 327 cause a weight factor so guess its a reman motor from advance auto (i love that 7mpg i get with the 327)
