Cool Possibly interchangeable 5.7 vortec to 305 v8...Opinions, please

Ok, I’m wet behind the ears so this may seem like a silly question, but I’m a novice so bear with me.
What parts are reusable from the 98 5.7 vortec to an 84 305 v8? I plan on junking the burb soon since the trans is shoot and it now needs head or intake gaskets…the smoking has gotten the best of my humor.
I’m thinking it would be worth a shot, both are small blocks but I want to be sure this is possible before I tear into it.
How much difficulty am I looking at what parts will I need (besides the obvious) to take the serpentine setup and use it on the 305?Is it a direct swap? Will I swap the water pump as well? Also are any ac components interchangeable? Are the wheels from the burb compatible also?

Anyone on here made the switch?
As always thanks for the advice, it is greatly appreciated.

just about everything but the pistons will interchange, but if you want to use the heads the intake is vortec specific, so you have to use the whole top end

Forgot about alternator wires on my 84 305 v8 how will that adapt to the alternator from the 98 5.7 vortec? Any other wiring I may need to rip from the 98? thanks

Could you possibly rebuild the vortec and scrap the rest? A 5.7 vortec in your truck would be a good swap

you would have lowwwwww compression ratio if you run them as 64cc with out having them milled or changin tha pistons.. sell tha whole motor & trans & make some coin..you can use tha serp setup...water pump & tha wheels with work ..depending on if they both are 5 lug 2wd..or there both 6 lug 4wd...it's not worth tha wrench time to do tha head swap

Re: Possibly interchangeable 5.7 vortec to 305 v8...Opinions, please

Way better value in just using the 5.7 vortec. The 305 intake ports are shrouded by the block.

The intake manifold is Vortec specific so you won't use the earlier smallblock intake without drilling and tapping the heads.

Google CS130 or AD244 alternator. That 98 could have either depending on whether the PO upgraded to an AD unit. Both are higher output than the 65Amp SI units in our trucks.
