Prices of new windscreen & rubbers fitted ?

Another question prompted by the fact that we would want certain jobs done before we bring a truck over here.

What sort of price ranges does one see for both the curved and "flat" windscreens and rubbers, fitted?

I am assuming that unless the screen has been replaced recently on an early 60's or 63-66 pickup, that we will be having it don in the States.

What sort of money does one look at, all inclusively for new windscreen fitting?

Any help, advice and info much appreciated.

Any other suggestions appreciated as well.

Not sure if side glass being flat, should be replaced at the same time, or if I should wait till the truck lands, if its side glass is rough or broken.

Loooking at this front screen, and even the side window, they look past their best.

Re: Prices of new windscreen & rubbers fitted ?

I had my windshield replaced, but did the rest of the windows (replacement or repair) all myself.

My windshield guy had to come from over an hour away, as many of the major places did not want to mess with the truck unless I bought a VERY marked up windshield from them AND waived liability if they damaged ANYTHING on my truck in the process....no thanks.
IIrc I paid about $260, including a brand new premium quality windshield w/tint strip (I was able to get the windscreen @ cost). Normally, it would run about $70-100 more.

Size vent windows are fairly easy to rebuild, I have a semi-write up on it in this section, and some extra photos of it in my build. Sideglass and vent windows can usually be saved with some good rubbing and reconditioning; plus its all regular flat glass, and any qualified glass shop in the UK should be able to do it for you.

Thanks for the reply.

I do agree, any glass guy who knows his business should be able to sort out flat glass.

I think that if it is scared then I will have the front screen replaced while in the USA.

Makes sense, and price seems reasonable too.

Sure.

Do you think the BBW trucks have to ask for a MAGNUM rear window rubber?

Re: Prices of new windscreen & rubbers fitted ?

I just paid $159 for the one in my 64 installed, and they came to the house and did it. They reused my old gasket, but with a new one, the total would have been $183. That was with lifetime rock chip repair and warranty on the glass itself.

Re: Prices of new windscreen & rubbers fitted ?

I just got a quote from a national company, Safelite Auto Glass, for $264.95 about 3 weeks ago. That may be different depending on the area of the country, but it was delivered and installed at my location including moldings. The price was for the shaded glass made by PPG. Clear glass is most expensive, and tinted glass is the cheapest.

I got another quote from a local place for $20 cheaper for the same glass made by PPG.

I should mention that my quote was for glass in a 1962, which is likely more expensive than '64-66 glass.

That makes sense. Safelite wanted $225 for mine initially, but I had been quoted $180 by another company, so they matched it.

Re: Prices of new windscreen & rubbers fitted ?

Most of these prices look OK as long as one looks around a bit.

I would not fit a screen at the prices as quoted.

Especially not on a knee knocker.

I have a friend that had a glass company come install the windshield on his 63 while I was there watching. It took him half the day, and he had to call someone else to help him. If someone that installs glass for a living had such a hard time doing it, pretty much how I would have assumed it should be done, I'm not even going to try it myself.

That is the problem when you quote prices based on the average length of time a windshield should be installed in. The customer of difficult jobs gets a bargain.
