Engine Break In

Hopefully, this weekend I will start up my new 350/330 hp crate motor. I also have to drive it from California to Indiana in a couple of weeks.

How should I break in this new motor? Oil, rpm's, etc...

Thanks

If it is a GM crate motor follow their break-in procedure explicitly. If you don't and have problems you might find your self up the creek.

You can find break in procedures here:

Here's a way to break in your engine. It's pretty controversial though: http://www.camaros.net/forum/ultimat...c;f=9;t=010412

I was told to break in my crate zz4 to drive it like I stole it. Just to make sure and vary speeds, escpecially if you are going on a road trip.

If you have money to burn and want the most HP out of your engine for a short time and don't mind rebuliding thye engine offten then this way is good, but if you are wanting long life out of your engine then follow the manufacture's specs. One other thing looking at the pic he has on his web site of the two pistions, I have never taken apart an engine what has had any miles put on it and found a piston that fricking clean. unless it was a fresh rebuild that went wrong within the first three days of operation.
Personaly I think this guys is full of Sh!t suggesting a break in like this for normal street use. but it is your engine and your money how ever you want to break it in is up to you, but ask your self Do I want to be driving this thing trouble free for the next 10-15 years or run the piss out of it and have to do a rebulid with in the first year or two.
