rear bumper brackets for a 67 with leaf springs
I ordered a set of rear bumper brackets to install a sport bumper on my 67 GMC shortbed with leaf springs. I can't figure how these install, without drilling a new hole in the frame for a mounting bolt - and even that doesn't seem exactly right.
Can anyone tell if they shipped me the wrong part, or am I just not figuring how to install it correctly? The invoice says "67-72 rear bumper bracket set SWB 4x4, 2x4 w/Rear Leafs". Here are some pics. The top bracket in the pics is the new bracket. The bottom bracket is the one that came with the bumper, and I think fits a coil spring truck.

Re: rear bumper brackets for a 67 with leaf springs
My 2x4 longbed with leaf springs required 4 brackets to mount. I'll look tommorrow and see what they look like. At this time they are off my truck due to ramming it into a tree backing out of my driveway coupe of months ago.

Re: rear bumper brackets for a 67 with leaf springs
The brackets in the pic are just the inner brackets. I also have the outer brackets.
After closer inspection is seems that the 2d hole from the left in the bottom picture does not go all the way through. If that hole went through, I'm pretty sure it lines up with a hole in the frame. I'm checking with the company I bought it from to see if they have the correct part, otherwise I gotta find somewhere local to drill a big hole in 1/4" steel. Kind of frustrating, since you expect things to work when you buy parts new!

the new bracket (top picture)you show fits 4X4 blazer, short box 4X4 and short box trucks with leaf springs.
The bottom pictured bracket is for all long box trucks and short box trucks with coil springs |

Re: rear bumper brackets for a 67 with leaf springs
So... the vender tells me he is certain these fit, and that maybe my frame was not drilled for sport bumper brackets. But after looking at this closely, I'm pretty sure he made a mistake and had the wrong hole drilled.
If anyone has a set of these laying around, or can get to the mounting brackets on their leaf spring 2x4 truck, can you tell me if the distance between the two mounting bolts is 5 1/2" or 7 1/4"? On my truck frame, the difference is 5 1/2". That also seems to be the correct distance needed for the outer brackets to line up correctly. I'll be drilling out the second hole when I get to a friends shop next week to see if that's the problem, but probably wont be using this vendor again.
