Crew cab to Regular cab
Well the Northeast winters have claimed another GM frame, upon MSI (Maine State Inspection) this year I was informed that due to rust my 81 GMC will not pass another inspection. So I am left with the dilemma, scrap the entire truck and get something newer or possibly take the 1986 Crew cab camper special frame I've had laying around for 2 years and shorten it down to to a regular cab through a little research I have found a CCLWB is 164.5 and a RCLWB is 131.5, what is the practicality of this project??

Re: Crew cab to Regular cab
Before you do the work see if shorten the frame is legal in your state,Reason i say that is a lot of states frame modification is illegal and to them shortening one is a modification so is any welding on one.

Re: Crew cab to Regular cab
2wd or 4wd?
And if you don't mind my asking, why not the middle ground, get another frame that doesnt need fabrication rather than buying a new truck? |

Re: Crew cab to Regular cab
I would personally either find another crew and use the 81 for parts or sell it for parts and buy yourself a single cab. Cutting up a frame I think would be way way to much work
