Sport mirrors

Just ordered my sport mirrors from LMC, i know some have them some dont like them, but im going for that street Hotrod look, Chrome bumpers, no side trim, maybe wheel well trim etc...

does the inside of the doors need to be reinforced where these mount ? i havnt got them yet... but im getting things ready to be painted and need to cover unwanted holes and such .

Re: Sport mirrors

No reinforcement needed, they are held on by two self tapping screws each.

Re: Sport mirrors

I can't remember if I got mine from LMC or Classic, but the glass fell out of both of them in about a year and a half and minor pitting has started. Put some wax on them, the reproductions are really cheap.

Re: Sport mirrors

These are the driver and passenger doors with the sport mirrors removed. They have a bracket that attaches to the door then the mirror attaches to that bracket. Just to give you an idea of the holes. They are extra doors I picked up.

Re: Sport mirrors

I got mine from Classic Parts, I checked for you. Mine cost less too, maybe you'll be OK. For sure though, put a little wax on them.

Re: Sport mirrors

From experience, If you want the mirrors to stay and last a long time, without damage or body issues. Put a plate behind the door sheetmetal and mount the mirror to the plate. Sheet metal screws and door panels will fatigue in a period of time, then they pull out, leaving an ugly hole and a PO'd opwner.

Re: Sport mirrors

I have the LMC sport mirrors on my truck too. The chrome started pitting badly after 6 months. I called, *****ed and emailed pics to them and they sent me a replacement pair no questions asked. Six months later the driver side glass popped off as I shut the door, luckily it didn't break. Epoxied it back and been fine for the last 2 yrs. Pieces of crap for what they cost, but they sure look nice.

Re: Sport mirrors

Here is what GM did, pen obviously added to allow an "exploded view" of the assembly.

The large black bracket resides inside the door, and is bolted to the inner door shell to provide backing for the mirror mount.

The gasket is held aligned by that third out-of-line hole in the door pictured in an above post.

The plated bracket mount attaches through the gasket and door shell into the large black bracket, which is made of approx 1/16" steel.

As far as which of these parts come with your aftermarket mirrors, that you will have to wait and see or ask others, I don't typically do aftermarket when I can at all avoid it...

Re: Sport mirrors

Can someone post a pic of a square with sport mirrors on it? I'm not sure what they look like or what the ones on mine are called.

Re: Sport mirrors

before with these little baby mirrors. they are too far away, too small. i felt they looked out of place on these trucks. and when i toss some dirtbikes in the bed i had a hard time using them

after with big square mirrors, what you would expect to be on a big square

Thanks guys for the pics. The ones on mine are square, but a little different than any of the ones posted in this thread.

Re: Sport mirrors

I just ordered some sport mirrors from Classic Industries.....suppose to be original GM mirrors, they show up, one has something rattling inside it and neither one has any stamping numbers on them. Aftermarket in GM boxes, how nice is that. Second thing I have bought from them and second thing I have returned....their stuff is junk. I just ordered new sport mirrors right from GM...the only reason I bought them from Classic was to use up my credit. Aftermarket parts are junk...you pay more for Original GM or NOS but it fits when you get it.

Re: Sport mirrors

I think the "sport" mirrors were standard ....

You had to order RPO D44/D45 or DF2 to get the larger ones

Re: Sport mirrors

I have a set on my CCSB and like them just fine. I don't do a lot of towing though.

Re: Sport mirrors

Well mine I like are factory and I would never buy LMC ones! I have had bad experiences with the quality of 90% of the products I have bought from them. I am just a strong believer in buying factory when at all possible!

Re: Sport mirrors

LOL, my 74 shorty super custom came factory with them. I always envied the big silver swing away mirrors. So I got some at the bone yard the other day. Next day the passenger sport mirror fell off and I didnt see where..
Im still putting the bigger mirrors on it. LOL The grass is always greener I guess...

Re: Sport mirrors

Nothing looks better on a squarebody truck than sport mirrors unless its a crewcab dually. Then the dumbo elephant mirrors look good. IMO
