Heater hose routing question

Mt truck didn't have a heater when I got it and now I have gathered all the parts I need to hook it up. My question is, which hose and fitting goes on the intake and which one on the pump. The heater core is self explanitory I'm just not sure which is which on the motor side. I would guess the smaller one goes from the pump to the lower connection on the core and the bigger one from the top connection on the core to the manifold but I'm prbably wrong. Pics would also be nice. Thanx!

The people that say there is a preference say that if you don't have a water valve, it doesn't matter. If you do have a valve, the supply line (water pump line) should have the valve on it. After the valve, it doesn't matter.

Some people say that it doesn't matter which side the valve is on either, which makes sense, since water won't be flowing through the heater core, but others say that having the valve on the supply side makes it so no hot water can get into the heater core at all.

The engine side should have two different size fittings just like the heater core. There should be a 5/8 on under the t-stat housing (6cyl) on the intake (8 cyl) and 3/4 fitting in the water pump on both 6 and 8 cyl engines. Unless someone switched the fittings in the engine, the heater hose should correspond with the fittings.

You will have a fight trying to get a 5/8 heater hose over a 3/4 fitting.

I just pulled mine. The 5/8 top to intake, 3/4 to pump lower. I posted some pictures here some were on same type question. Look in projects or use link to my cardomain for engine shots.
