I have new battery, the alternator was tested and it checked good, the guy at the auto parts said to check the starter because it could be the problem.... Is this possible?? Starter was bought new two years ago but truck was never driven till recently.

Re: Bad starter????

The starter has nothing to do with charging your battery. A bad starter will cause hard starting (cranking) but has nothing to do charging.

How old is your new battery? has it sat for a while before you used it?

Re: Bad starter????

cheack all your grounds and power wires,
maybe a wire is crossed or corrosion.
anything can creata draw but are easy to fix.
start with the engine block grounds and follow the power wires from the battery and check all the wires.
iv never heard of a starter causing to loose power.
really is a possibility that the auto parts people are just morons too

Re: Bad starter????

Battery is only 2 weeks old, my old battery was only 3 months old and they replace it, I checked the alternator myself with a snap on tool and it only shows about 12, so I took it off so I can go purchase another one, they checked it at the auto parts and alternator showed good?? What else can be affecting it? Any suggestion is appreciated.

Re: Bad starter????

aftermarket alternator?
not giving enough amperage?

get the truck running and disconnect the negetive battery cable and see if it still runs.
if it still runs the alternator is still good.
if not theres your problem.
on thing you will always run into in the auto industry is parts guys that think they know everything about cars. (when they cant even change their own oil)

Did you check or replace the voltage regulator?

Re: Bad starter????

Thank you all for all the help, after reading a lot on this forum I finally ran into a picture that showed how the alternator was suppose to be wired, come to find out it was missing the wire that goes from the battery to the alternator... Imagine that? Lol
Long story short, when I bought the truck non of the wiring in the engine bay was hooked up, it was all in a box, somebody pieced it back together and forgot to put that wire back in.. Anyhow now it's showing the 14volts and charging, now can't wait to finally go cruise it for the first time this weekend :-)

Re: Bad starter????

That's good to hear man.
That's the down side to older trucks, with age comes problems lol

But... Upgrades are in your future

That gives you an excuse so you can spend money on it haha
