Question D-Max in the 67

So a future plan....... my truck is a 3/4 ton. I wanna put a Duramax in it. I'm guessing I'm going to have to box my frame but now the question is will the front suspension hold the weight of the motor? Anyone with out there that has done the same? Would I have to up grade my suspension to a 1 ton? Anything helps thanks.

Re: D-Max in the 67

4x4 or 4x2? in my 4x4 the 4" front springs settled very little under the weight of a p-pump 12v and 47re. that combo is north of 1300# if i recall correctly.

leafs are different than coils though, so if its a 4x2 i imagine you may need a spring with a heavier rate. a dmax is somewhere around 840# by itself and the trans will tack another 350+/- that is probably close to 5-600# more than the stock stuff depending on the engine you had.

72duraburb has a dmax swapped 2wd burb and may be able to give you some ideas. i am not sure of anyone that has done a dmax in a 4x4

Re: D-Max in the 67

I had a 1200lb Cummins 6bt in my c10. It will definitely compress stock springs a bit. But not enough to freak out. Bags would be a great idea, along with the boxing.

A cummins would be a easier swap if you get a 12 valve. If your worried about weight a 4bt cummins weights 750lbs but its a 4 cylinder version of the 12 valve 5.9.

I'm a Cummins guy myself and it would be easier to put in, but I like being different and since it's a Chevy why not put a Duramax in it.
