1982 GMC long stepside UTILITY
Until very recently I worked at a Wrecking Yard in northwestern Washington (State). One day they brought in a 1982 GMC C25 that looked to have a low-profile utility bed on it. I always go look at every square that came in there, ALWAYS...didn't matter how rusted or munched, I looked for interesting/rare parts. It took me a whole trip around this thing to realize it had a wooden bed floor that looked like those in stepsides... waaaaaait a minute, that looks like a GM front bulkhead...(tailgate was down)...closed the tailgate and just about peed all over it instantly. HOLY CRAP! A GMC longbed stepside with utility boxes!!! I found a tag on the front corner of the driver's side box, it was upfitted/converted by company in Seattle, WA. I don't remember the details, but the tag is still there. I talked to one of the parts guys and worked out a deal to buy the back half of the truck. I unbolted the cab and sawzalled the frame where you can see in the pictures. I wanted to clean it, patch up a couple things, and build it into a trailer to tow behind my truck. I had envisioned putting a pop-up camper in it and having one sweet setup for the weekends. Eh, decided to go finish my education first. Projects later. I don't have the time or the money to take care of this how it deserves. Neither can I store it anywhere. I would like to see this go to someone who appreciates it for the uniqueness and would be interested in either restoring he long stepside bed or keeping the boxes. Note: The truck was a single fuel tank truck so the driver's side utility box would have to be pocketed like the passenger side is, if used on a dual tank truck. Also the tailgate is in GREAT shape, call it an 8.5/10. No big dents, no cancer, no bad bends. Asking $500 OBO.

Thanks

Re: 1982 GMC long stepside UTILITY
This looks like a good price if it is in as good of condition as it looks! That is a really cool set up!

Re: 1982 GMC long stepside UTILITY
If we could figure a way to ship it I'd hit the "buy it now" button. Can anyone figure a good way? Maybe weld a trailer stand with swivel wheel and load on flatbed? I wish Mike (Fine69) was still hauling. I know it won't be cheap, but if it could get hear in one piece w/o damage I'd be willing to pay...dang it!!

Bump
Thank you for your interest, I wish there was an easy way for ALL of us to ship the parts we have, some of us are more fortunate than others (Arizona vs Rust Belt).

Re: 1982 GMC long stepside UTILITY
If that thing is solid I'd be willing to do what it takes if you are. I'd take it off the frame, build a pallet, and truck it. I know it won't be cheap (or easy),but I think still cost within what I'd be willing to spend. I'm looking versus a new long Stepside and/or utility bed. Also,I have a nice wide bed ('72) to sell if I switched beds.

Re: 1982 GMC long stepside UTILITY
Yeah,I'd be willing to pay more than that. Is your bed on a pallet? If I had an idea of the weight and Devin is wiling to do what is required I'd get a quote

Re: 1982 GMC long stepside UTILITY
He's going to build a wood crate around it. My auction is over Sunday see what bids I get prob go with the guy with the $825 bid he's got good feedback and ships a lot of classic cars and parts. I rather pay a little more for a guy to make sure it gets here not damaged.

Re: 1982 GMC long stepside UTILITY
That's good thinking. The cost is only the first issue. Once you've decided to spend it you sure don't want to end up paying someone to trash it. It's easier to ship a car. Big stuff like this needs a fork lift and the perfect way is on the same truck from origin to destination. The less handling the better, and possibly cheaper. Less work anyway.

Re: 1982 GMC long stepside UTILITY
special-K, I am in school right now but this next week is Spring Break for me. Sorry for disappearing for a bit, school has been my priority. I will be back where I can work on this thing a little bit. I was thinking, I could unbolt the side boxes and place them in the bed, reducing it's width for shipping. I would have to fabricate a pallet/crate around it, which is going to take some time as well as removing it from frame. I understand you are interested in it, I can get better pictures at that time and whatnot.

Re: 1982 GMC long stepside UTILITY
Thanks for getting back. I understand you're not in the used bed business and life keeps us busy. I'm patient and in no big hurry. I really like this one and never see them around here. I think just an open crate would be fine. Like just a framework w/o plywood. Just on a pallet would do,I'm sure. But,if a shipper can stack other cargo on top to use more space it should help keep the rte lower. Maybe ask a shipper first to be sure it's even worth it.
