77 chev 02 gm diff compatability

I will be resurrecting a 77 chev 10 in the spring, but am currently stripping an 02 gmc 1500.The rear diff in the 02 (3.42,posi,disc brakes,6 bolt) is crying out to me to be used.Has anyone done a swap like this? My first concern is the wheel bolt pattern,I want to keep the factory rims.Is there an axle that will fit in this housing with a 5 bolt pattern,or do I need to get these axles (and rotors) drilled for a 5 bolt?I haven't looked into any other compatability issues I may encounter,Any thoughts?Name: IMG_5139.jpg

Another issue you may run into besides the lug pattern, is the width. The late models use fairly high offset wheels, while the C10 uses a 0 offset wheel.

That 10-12 bolt in the 77 will be way stronger than that new axel. Yank it out and sell it on craigs list, take the money and rebuild the origional axel. Then swap that LS motor into the 77.

I want to swap the late model disc brakes on to my 12 bolt. Not sure if it'll work or not.

Check the backing plate bolt patterns see if they are close or not.

They won't "bolt on". If you want rear discs on a budget check our Vendor Marketplace.
