LSX376/T56 Magnum First Restomod Build
Have been on the site for a little bit and been learning a lot from everyone. I bought a 1968 SWB a little over a year and finally getting around to doing something. I had been gathering parts and researching what I wanted to do on my build.
This originally started as what was going be an all original build with a mild 350 motor but I got to looking at other builds on here and started getting "bad" ideas!! Now instead of a mild built 350 and original truck I have decided that I am going to be putting a 6.2 LSX376 motor mated to a T56 Magnum 6 speed transmission. It will run a original 12 bolt reared with 3.73 gears. I wanted the 6 speed just to give me that double overdrive so I can get some what decent MPG's when going down the highway. Anyways enough talking. Hope you all will enjoy this as much as I have! I am starting the thread a little late and have already made some progress on the truck. These are when I first got it home and started tearing it apart. Also just a picture of my shop where most of this will be taking place. You can see the bed off to the side of the shop. Not sure why I didn't have any of the truck all together :/ Zack |

Awesome plans, doesnt look like much of a lack of work space! You should have PLENTY of room in there!

Re: LSX376/T56 Magnum First Restomod Build
Thought I would go ahead and upload a couple of panels I have been working on. I started taking a collision repair course and the teacher is letting me bring my own stuff in with the truck and letting me work on it. Its been great since I get to learn everything but also get my truck done at the same time. At least body work wise.
I have really enjoyed getting to do this and I now have a lot of respect for you all that do this stuff for a living and you guys that do these crazy custom trucks. Very fun stuff but it really isn't as easy as people think it might be! |

Re: LSX376/T56 Magnum First Restomod Build
I have got both fenders, tailgate, and hood all done and primed then blocked with 180 and re-primed. I am ready to sand with 320/400 and seal it again and lay some color. I haven't done any of this work body or spraying before but I sure am addicted to spraying! Its awesome to see what can be done with paint.
The paint I am using is a Nissan color. I am a fan of anything blue so of course I went with a blue! Its got like 55 grams of blue pearl in the gallon of paint I bought. I don't have a picture of it in the sun but it sure is sweet in my opinion. This truck was going to be a original restore and changed once I got going in class. I decided I wanted to just make this one to my own taste and maybe the next one I can do as an original! |

Re: LSX376/T56 Magnum First Restomod Build
Got the tail gate all done and primed. I have started on one bed side getting it stripped down and start on the body work. For an original bedside I was amazed how well it was and there is not a drop of filler in it! I will get the dents hammered out the best I can and will do some filing and fill what I have to. Trying to put the least amount of filler in this truck that I can!
Wondering about going back and welding up the holes for the upper trim on the tail gate. I am not using any moulding on the truck and really like the clean look the ass end of these trucks have with out any trim around the lights and across the tail gate. |

Re: LSX376/T56 Magnum First Restomod Build
Very nice build so far. I wish I had clean sheetmetal to work with from the start, it would make things so much easier. Nice engine by the way.

Re: LSX376/T56 Magnum First Restomod Build
Good choice on motor. I like the color... and Im not really a fan of blue (mainly because its the Mother in laws favorite color and she goes a bit overboard with it)
