chevelle rear
What is the most economical way to match the newer 4L60 transmission to an older Chevelle rear and yoke? I know there are ujoints with 2 different size ends but don't know the numbers. The driveshaft will be 53". The local machine shop will shorten a shaft for $72 which doesn't sound too bad. What did everyone else do?

Re: Mating a 4L60 to a Chevelle rear
Th350,400,200,700 and 4l60 are 27 spline. I used a stock 92 S10 blazer 4x4 4 door rear shaft that is 52 inches long, slid it into the 700 and used a conversion joint that was in stock at the parts store to 1310 common 67-72 truck rear axle ( but was the most common ujoint in GM vehicles from what I hear. Bolted it in and hit the road. It took me 3 lunch hours with a tape measure to figure it out though.
I think I have $47 in the driveshaft and the joint |

Re: Mating a 4L60 to a Chevelle rear
Thanks to NEWFISHER on the driveshaft install. Got 2 conversion joints, had a yoke and got a 53" shaft from a friends pile of parts for $10. Less than $50 invested but need to replace the slip yoke I borrowed. I love this site!
