Conversion axles $158.56 to my door?

Okay, I'm not sure if anyone else has taken this route but I figured I'd try it and see what happens. After doing some looking I found that Advance Auto Parts sells Motive Gear replacement axles for our trucks for $87.99 each. Well, after confirming they were 5 lug and and the correct length I took the leap. Because I bought them through the web site I received a 15% discount and free shipping. I did have to pay tax on them but with a total of $158.56, to my door, I figure the state could have their $8.98. I'll let you all know how it turns out when they arrive, probably next week.

Seems like a good price if it works out. Keep in mind your 68 has the narrow rear end if still original.

Thanks for the reminder, but I built a '70 (longer) rear end to help with wheel fittment.

Re: Conversion axles $158.56 to my door?

I just found this in the for sale section:

{ According to Moser's site 65 - 69 are 30-1/2" and 70 - 81 are 31-5/16" }

Hopefully you can double check the new ones before you take the rear apart.
Not sure they know their years, lol.

Re: Conversion axles $158.56 to my door?

^^ This measurement is from the outer flange edge (where the wheel mounts to the axle) to the end of the axle itself.

I have a 70 with a wide housing and it was 6 lug. (not now .. )

Re: Conversion axles $158.56 to my door?

Also, the 15% promo code FE4 off looks like it ends tomorrow 8 Feb 2013, but if you download their sales flyer there is a link on the back page that will give you the 15% off until 27 Feb 2013.

Looks like a good deal.

Thanks, John

I tried to add this info to the above post but this site has some 30 minute time limit to edit your post...so double post instead.

Wonder what the part number would be for the more narrow rear end?

Re: Conversion axles $158.56 to my door?

I dont think they have it for a narrow rear end. I searched the site for axles for a 67 and they did not even have a listing...although they did have the entire axle housing (Gear Differential Case? listed for $300.

I found this part number MG6569. However, it states that its for CV axles.

Re: Conversion axles $158.56 to my door?

I am thinking that because the 70-81 are the same axle they list the 5 lug axle for those years. Hopefully it is a wonderful coincidence!

I have two of them.

From the factory,... all 1970 model 2wd trucks were 6-lug and 4-wheel drum brake.

Buck, post up the length of the wheel studs when they arrive please sir. My Moser axles had really short studs in them.

(Just so anyone going this route will know ahead of time)
