Does this happen to anyone else???

So I've been back and forth troubleshooting the starter on my 70 C10. Replaced the solenoid first, no good. Kept the solenoid for a spare and just replaced the starter. Then I had the wrong length bolts for the new starter. Still working on that one. Meanwhile, the solenoid on my 72 K20 goes out the same day I buy the starter for the C10. What are the odds of that?

But wait, it gets better. I get home tonight, crawl under the K20 in the dark and replace the solenoid. With that done, the starter works perfectly and she fires right up. Then dies. Try to start it up again and it doesn't even try to fire. I doublecheck the wiring connections and everything looks good and checks out within specs on the multimeter. After cranking for a bit, there's a conspicuous lack of gasoline smell.... The gauge reads fine and has always worked well in the past. Turns out the gauge has decided to stop working as well, and there was JUST enough fuel for it to fire up and then die. I guess I should be happy that I didn't get stranded somewhere and it happened to run out in my driveway.

So after that long winded story, my question is this... Does anyone else have these seemingly unrelated things just happen in bunches?

It happens to all of us regardless if we admit it or not. There is not enough room on this website to share all of my mishaps.

Make sure the starter bolts you get are actually starter bolts and not regular grade bolts.

Tomorrow is a new day

Re: Does this happen to anyone else???

Thanks guys. Glad it isn't just me at least. The wife was less than pleased to have two of three vehicles out of commission this week. I had to drive the one she usually uses, leaving her on foot. Not a good way to keep my hobby on her good side...

Re: Does this happen to anyone else???

About a year ago I was replacing the gasket on the front diff of my K20,, got that done, filled with fluid. Sat down and my phone rang. I'm talking on the phone ,sitting on a chair about 5 feet away from the truck and see antifreeze start dripping. Imagine that,,,, heater core sprung a leak just sitting there !!! FML !!!

Re: Does this happen to anyone else???

On the plus side, I did get the new starter installed in the C10 tonight so I can get back to trying to get the right air/fuel mix and set the timing...

It always happens at the end of the year around my area. Not the beginning of the year, other end where the money is stretched already.

Re: Does this happen to anyone else???

I just had top put off my aux. tank gift to myself so I could re-rebuild my engine. Once that was done, I drove from Nashville to upstate New York and back. 4 miles from my house, a lady bolts out in front of me and just stopped. I banged up my fender and my bumper but crushed her car like a beer can. I am still saving up to fix that. I lay out my yearly projects and always wind up doing something else. Story of my life.

One thing you will NEVER see on this thread, "Oh wow, I am so surprised! That had never happened to me."
