Anyone do bed liner on the firewall?

I am thinking about getting some roll on bed liner and doing the bottom of my cab, and inside the front fenders. Then I got to thinking has anyone done the bed liner on the whole firewall and maybe the inner fenders too?

Thoughts? Pics?

I shot my fire wall and inner fenders with a spay can of bed liner i got from napa. its held up pretty good. Except were i spilled my brake fluid at. But i just cleaned it up and reshot it looks good.

If it's a rough texture it will be harder to clean.

I sprayed my firewall with UPol Raptor bedliner. The stuff goes on easy and so far appears extremely durable. It’s very popular with the Jeep guys. Many do the entire interior of there vehicles with it.

In the spring I take it to the coin operated car wash and hose off the area behind the tires and it comes back looking like new.

Hey that does look pretty sweet. definitely got me thinking more about doing it. was the stuff messy to spray? The rest of your build is awesome too, good job!

I just did the engine bay in my `63 with rattle can bed liner from Advance Auto called ArmourCoat or something. It's not very textured, about like 100 grit sandpaper. Not what you'd call show finish by any stretch but it's a driver.

Used the raptor liner on the firewall and front/rear inner fenders thanks to the advice or markeb01 and I am very happy with. I will snap some pics and post them here if you like. Comes with hardner and spray gun. The only problem I have is that I keep finding stuff to use it on. I am on my 2nd kit so far.

Do they make the liner in different colors? Since I think I'm going dark red paint on the body, I'm wondering if I should should do a dark red bed liner under the hood, or keep it black? hmm

It is available in tintable version where I suppose you would ad some paint to color match it. Purchased it here about 120.00 delivered to my door.

By the way, as for prepwork, I used etching primer on some parts that had no paint and on parts that had paint or clear, I scuffed them good and have had no problems with adhesion. As with anything else, make sure your parts are good and clean. Especially inside the fenders where armorall has been kicked up inside there, at least in my case.

If you decide to have it done just tell them no texture. It goes on glossy and the final misting is what puts the texture on. Rhino is what I do and if you don't like the black you can order any color you want as long as your okay with the added cost. Otherwise you can paint over it, just shoot Bulldog on first then color and clear.

Compared to spraying lacquer or enamel paint, there’s almost no mess at all spraying Raptor. It uses a Schutz gun and it’s easy to control the amount of texture by varying the distance from the surface and the air pressure. I threw a couple of tarps under the truck and when I was done I just pulled the masking and the tarps and there wasn’t any overspray anywhere else. Thanks for looking at the build and your comments.

I bought mine at a local paint store and paid too much for it, but I was in a hurry and didn’t plan far enough ahead!

Be sure to select a product that includes the gun. I happen to have a nearly new 3M Schutz gun, but wouldn’t you know the threads are incompatible between 3M and UPol.

When you pulled the edge masking tape did the liner leave an edge like paint?
Can you snap a couple pics of the edges where the liner stops and the paint starts?
Also how (approx) thick did you go with it? Did you razor cut the edges, like rhino does to angle the edges?

I used the same stuff on my 61 Lincoln's firewall, I pulled the tape off when it was still wet.

I haven't done my firewall, but had the underside of my hood done in gloss black from a friend who used to have a bedliner business. It sure solidified my hood so it don't sound so "hollow" now.

Sorry I didn’t see your questions earlier. I just looked over the engine compartment a few minutes ago and don’t believe I had any hard masking tape edges against paint. The way I masked it off everything was bordered along an edge. For example the radiator support was taped off at the joint next to the fender and is hidden under the radiator baffles. Along the length of the fenders I ran the tape down the very edge of the vertical fender lip, so any Raptor material ended in the gutter between the inner fender and the edge of the outer fender.

I did however pull the tape immediately when I finished spraying, so I had no need to cut anything. As far as thickness I actually saved a piece of the dried liner that covered a piece of blue masking tape. The bare tape is .005 thick and the tape with the liner on it is .020 so the liner itself is .015 thick. The problem being I don’t remember where this piece of tape came from, so I don’t know if this is typical, or from an area that only received overspray. As best I remember I did 2-3 coats on the firewall and what’s left of the inner fenders.
