Re: Stock CD radio ?
here is what I was rolling with stock.... pay no attention to the aftermarket radio above, but the disc slot below the HVAC controls plugs into the back of the factory radio. You probably will have to get a newer model stock radio to hook it all up, but should fit in your dash as my dad's 95 dash has that extra cubby hole where my CD player was/still is.
![]() I still have the factory radio in the barn, if you need more pics of that. Also should note there where two styles of radio for these trucks, some slid in and unclipped with tabs and some bolted in. So take yours out and see what style it is before buying a "new" stock radio. Its kind of set up like a component system... guessing because the CD player was an afterthought in the later years of production and didn't want to change the dash. Also this doesn't have an AUX input. so you'll need one of those casset adapter things for Ipod connection. |

Re: Stock CD radio ?
thanks, I was looking for the radio with the built in cd player, like you said I need to see how mine mounts, do you know if the wiring harness will be the same on all chevy radios. I want to have the factory CD radio and be able to plug my I pod into the back of it using the AUX input. It would probally be easier to just buy an aftermarket radio, but I kinda wanted to keep the stock look, plus nobody would want to bust out my window for a factory radio.

I honestly tried to resist going with aftermarket in my Suburban, but I finally gave in. I wanted to be able to play MP3s and I had this Alpine laying around with a USB port. I got a dash kit that mounts the unit nice and flush, which I do like. ![]() Plus, the blue display of the Alpine works very well with my blue LED cluster and HVAC controls.

Re: Stock CD radio ?
Yeah, if you are worried about cutting into the truck harness, just buy the appropriate connector harness and connect that to the new radio, then it is just plug and play. Also be careful what dash kit you buy, mine took a lot of dremeling, and then I had to add a custom trim piece which I also had to machine down and paint, looks good now, but way more work than it needed to be for a "plug and play" dash kit. GM uses a "1.5" din radio size. Looks like 1badgmc got a more user friendly dash kit. Other than that one gripe I had no issues installing my new head unit.

I like the LED swap ,How hard was it to change out the lights in the HVAC unit, looks sweet!

Re: Stock CD radio ?
It's all plug-n-play. The HVAC control has to come out to swap the radio and both have to come out to get the cluster out, so I did the LED swaps and head unit all at the same time.
