Problems with Leatherman service.

The following correspondence reveals to me a real problem with Leatherman product warranty.
That said, I love their products and would encourage the use of them. However just don't expect to take advantage of any claimed warranty.

This is all in reverse order, so it may make more sense if you read it from the bottom up.

Your English is poor, and you are confusing. First you state that you usually can't always repair the P4, then you state that you will not know if you can repair it until you take a look at it, then you state that you can't repair it. Holy hell, all it needs is the file. DO YOU HAVE ANY? IF YOU DO SEND IT TO ME AND I WILL FIX THE MOTHERF@#$%^&!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Robert,

We will not know if we can repair until they take a look at the tool. If we can’t we would replace it with a PS4, we no longer have the P4 available. We can’t repair the P4 and you do not want it replaced we would send it back to you as is.

Sincerely,

OK, one more time. I have been sending this to coninfo@leatherman.com, but maybe it just confused whomever was reading it and that's why I am being ignored. The next step will be to ask everyone I know for advice on what to do next.

Still wondering if you meant can or can not usually repair the P4. I just want to know. I am anxious to have it repaired if possible.

I wonder if your response has a misused word.(We usually can’t always repair the P4,) It just seems like an awkward phrase, I wonder if the intent is to say "can" ? It seems that you are saying either you usually can't repair or can't always, but both together seems like a typo.

Please advise

Hello Robert,

Thank you for contacting us. The P4 has been retired and replaced with the PS4. We usually can’t always repair the P4, if we can’t repair it we would replace it with the PS4.

I’ve attached the warranty return form with the instructions on how to send your tool in to us under the warranty.

Thanks again for contacting Leatherman Tool Group, Inc.

Subject: squirt p4

Hello Sir of Madam,

My name is Robert Savia and I received a squirt P4 as a gift several years ago. I love this tool, it has been a lifesaver on many occasions and always comes in handy,

Anyhow, the file got broken off of it and I was very sad to find out I could not buy another one as it had been discontinued, that is until someone told me Leatherman offers a warranty on it, I read the warranty on your site and am concerned that if I send it in for repair that parts may not be available. If you would please let me know if the part is still available and it can be repaired before I send it I would appreciate it very much.

Thank you for you time and consideration,

Robert Savia.

Re: Leatherman tools

Okay, your first post here, and its to complain about a company (that has nothing to do with Chevy trucks) well known for excellent customer service.

...And you don't live that far from the factory.

Next time you're in Portland, stop by the factory store and let them help you.
You will get what you desire far faster that way than complaining on the internet.

Re: Leatherman tools

I don't see the problem with Leatherman. In their first email they offered to replace it if they couldn't repair it. Then you picked apart their sentence. Doesn't matter if they usually can, or usually can't fix it. If they can, they would, If they can't they would replace it. Not sure why you are making it so hard on them?

Sorry, but I see the Leatherman employee being very nice and offering great options, and you being pretty rude.

Re: Leatherman tools

I would just send it to them...and then wait and see what comes back in the mail

maybe yours will be repaired, or maybe you will have a brand new one to brag about....seems like a good deal to me

or you could just keep the broken one and worry about something else....

life is simple really or is it really simple ......anyways good luck...

Re: Leatherman tools

You have misunderstood and come across as an ass, especially in your last message. It's quite clear to me that you have a couple options:

1. Send P4 in for repair and they will fix it.

2. Sent P4 in for repair, it can not be fixed (likely no available parts) and you can:

a. Get it back not repaired (if you wish)

or

b. Get a brand new PS4.

Re: Leatherman tools

I got another email back from them stating that because the P4 is riveted together it can not be repaired and would be replaced with the PS4. I thanked them for finally answering the question. Now I know it will do me no good to send it in for repair, I already have a PS4 and while it is a fine piece I don't want two of them.

Clearly there was misunderstanding. That is why I sent so many messages asking for clarification.

Sorry for venting here, just wanted to get the word out. I have been using Leatherman tools for over half my life and have never had to have one repaired or replaced till now and I thought it would be like Craftsman or Snap-on, I was unpleasantly shocked.
