Re: tell me how i did
I really like the silver. I just cleaned and repainted mine a couple weeks ago. I ended up putting US Marines sticker under the lens where the tach would go. I didn't want to spend any money, so I didn't get too fancy. My total cost was free paint and sticker from my office and borrowed some headlight restoration kit from a friend to clean up the lens.
And while I was in there, I put black RTV around the cardboard tubes to keep light from escaping and I stripped some off green tint off the lens in some areas near the guages to maximize the light. Oh and I greased my speedo cable and took out the fiber optic wire to the shift indicator and replaced it with an LED on a wire. |

Re: tell me how i did
Those are factory gauges with white vinyl overlays, you can get everything I got on eBay, except the paint came from my local hobby shop

Re: tell me how i did
Inner Tins without tach are solid in the middle and therefore do not light up that circle. However, If you drill 1/8" holes that are spaced out by 1/8" all along the edge of the "tach area" it will allow light to illuminate the center ring from the two light bulb on either side of that area. It actually looks kinda cool IMO when you have some sort of design or photo or something there and illuminated.
I wanted to put fuel in the center, tach on the far left and speedo on the far right and then fill the bottom slots with volt, oil, engine temp and tranny temp. However, not being willing to spend $750 that could potentially be spent elsewhere......ha-ha-ha- I think you should stencil the slogan "CHEVY RUNS DEEP" underneathe the bowtie. |
