Radio opinions

Going to be in the market for a radio pretty soon and want a nice radio/cd player.
I have not bought a radio for a long time just been using what came in them since the newer trucks have nice radios.


Anyway was thinking of doing a Pioneer radio and a pair of kick panels with some 6.5s in them, is there a good option to install some speakers in the stock speaker hole in the dash? So I have sound coming from other areas in the cab.

Another brand that I should be looking at.? Different speakers.?

Going to put sound deading on the floor and inside the doors and back of the cab when i do the radio as well.

Pioneer is a good deck, it is my go to deck for most of the radios I look to install because they tend to have the best receiver and I listen to a lot of radio.

I got a killer deal on some Infinity 6.5 2 ways (about $40 for the pair I think) that would be perfect for some kick panels, I used them in my '69. In the dash of my '66 (I think 67-72 is the same) I used some Kicker 4" 2 ways using a small wood plate I made.

Also take a look at the 67-72 corner speaker kit. I would use a 6.5" rather than a 6x9, but that's just me.

If you plan to buy the gear local, just go have a listen. You might be surprised to find a cheaper speaker might sound better to you than a more expensive set. Find a good deck with the options you want and rock out.

Cool thanks for the info, cant do corner speakers if you mean the behind the seat set up because of the tank, unless you mean something diffferent then please explain more.

Think the dual 4" in the dash and 6.5s in the kick panels might just be plenty for me, thought about a 8" in a box under the seat but I dono on that one.

I have Pioneer all the way, head unit,2 6.5's in the kick panels,6x9's in cab corners,and a 12" behind the seat with a polk audio amp.I am very happy with it.The sound is great and not alot money.

definitely put a pair in the dash. 3.5" or 4" speakers will work fine. I put a pair of 6.5" under my seat and the combination is perfect for a DD. Get's loud enough, but I don't plan on waking the dead. Pioneer, apline and Kenwood are all good brands. Do not under any circumstances buy sony speakers for your vehicle. They are much cheaper, both in cash and quality. I bought JL and infinity speakers and an RE audio amp. Infinity is great and well priced. JL makes good stuff, but they tend to be overpriced, I just happened to get a deal I couldn't pass up. RE audio is fairly new but they have great value and products.

blue tooth phone?
gps?
usb plug?
add more amps?
i did two 4X6 instead on one mono 4X10 front center

Yeah just wanting a good am/fm cd player and a good sound, I dont have to have anything super load but gotta be able to crank it from time to time..lol

Probably go with a pioneer two 6.5" in the kick panels and two 4" in the dash. Thanks for the opinions.

Just an fyi you are going to have to make a bracket yourself for the dash speakers unless you get the brothers replacement part.

I am going with Kenwood KDC-X996 deck and two sets of 6.5 Kicker QS65.2 component speakers in the kickpanels and a L7 Kicker 10" sub. My stereo guy likes this set up for our trucks. If you have a good stereo store near you I would suggest you talk to them to make sure you get what sounds good to you for your type of music.

I would like to find a good store I guess when I get the money together I will do that.

I figured I would have to make some sort of bracket for the speakers to mount to just have to see what it looks like once I get them.

I love the L7, but now way in hell would that beast fit behind my Cadillac seats. The Polk Audio MM 10" has almost the same profile as a shallow sub, without the limited movement for full bass response.

I like the idea you have and it should sound great. I have a Kenwood in my boat not sure of the number but its great. Where will that sub go? Is the sub you mentioned something already made up or is your stereo guy building it?

I just did major Rattletrap thoughout today! I need to look at your setup sounds perfect for what I want. Who has decent kickpanels these days?

My kickpanels are custom made by my stereo guy, not to expensive for handbuilt not sure exact price but it was less than $250 for the pair. Here are a couple of pics of the ruff in panels they are now fiberglassed and bondoed up and waiting to be covered in the same black leather as my seat will be. The sub will be behind the seat the box will go from door to door, it just fit had to move the seat forward a little.

I made a pocket to fit in the vent hole so the back of the speaker is protected as well as help with sound separation.

I'm going with an alpine touch screen double din 7" ine-w927hd. There was already 6x9 holes in my doors so i'll use them and 4" in the dash in jl audio c2's. I got 3 10 w-1-8 for behind the seat and an jl audio hd900x5.

Since you live in Paola, you might cruise over or call the guys at Giger's Street Rods and Trucks, on South Commercial street, Emporia, Ks. They sell a fair selection of radios and Pioneer is one of their top lines, as wella Alpine and Kenwood. I recently ended up in the Pioneer radios and I am much impressed with their capability. If you do contact them talk to Cory Giger, they will meet or beat the prices on many outlets. For the most part Beat is the word of choice. If you want them to install, they have that capability, also.
