I wouldn't cause I like the "stock look" but if you can handle cutting them giver!
It would probably sound much better.

Re: Pros and cons of putting 6.5 speakers in the doors

I have them in mine because previous owner cut and had them in there, it does sound good with them plus the rear 6x9s but if mine weren't already cut I'm not sure if I could bring myself to do it.

Not a bad idea, you can also buy kick panels from q-logic

Re: Pros and cons of putting 6.5 speakers in the doors

I did it but it has to be a componet set if you have power windows. With power windows the speaker will end up in about the center of the door on the carpet panel because of the motor. When you close the door the sound gets muffled by the side of the seat so a pair of tweeters on the dash is a must. I have a 6.5" kicker component set in mine and 6x9 fosgates in the back.

How are you going to keep moisture from destroying the speakers? This happens to all trucks I see with door speakers

Re: Pros and cons of putting 6.5 speakers in the doors

There are several different options you can go with they even make headliners that will hold speakers. I wouldn't cut holes in the doors because just incase you wind up not liking then your still stuck with the holes.

I thought about that too but I know if I put speakers in the doors they'll get ruined since water goes down inside my doors...need to replace my weather stripping

Re: Pros and cons of putting 6.5 speakers in the doors

Either way, if you look at that section of a door it is basicly flimsy and an acoustic drum. So you get panel distortion with horrible sound acoustics. so it really isn't the best place to mount a speaker. To fix this issues can cost quite a bit and with just the kick panel mounts that are now coming on the market it really makes no sense to me to hack up a door. I have yet to see a clean job on a door speaker lol

Re: Pros and cons of putting 6.5 speakers in the doors

i put sound deadner & mlv in my doors so it sounds real good, but with that depressed section of the door, it does make the installation look goofy. if my doors had'nt been cut, i'd go kick panels & cab corners

I have seen those kick panel pods and they blocked the e-brake from being fully depressed and I know those would get banged up by feet

Re: Pros and cons of putting 6.5 speakers in the doors

I almost did it. I had a set of kicker marine speakers and I was thinking about cutting my doors and/ or my kick panels. but in the end I decide not too. just didnt feel right. I ended up using 3.5 in the dash. (prolly regret that decision).

Actually these are designed to clear the E-brake.
Chris is a great guy to deal with, and I can assure you he won't sell a product that he wouldn't run in his own herd of 73-87 trucks.
