Front marker lights turn off when headlights turn on
Hi, I,m new to this forum and just lookin for some help. I bought a 65 longbed recently. Someone had put a tilt steering column in the truck (worst hack job I,ve seen in awhile, anyway..). I finally got the front marker lights to come on and they no longer come on when I hit the brakes! Next problem is that the front markers turn off as soon as I turn the headlights on. Does anyone have any idea where else I should be looking? The only obvious damage to wiring is at the column, which I have been trying to repair. I think it may be a ground or short issue, but not sure and not sure where to look. Never had this body style before and have wanted one for awhile. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Re: Front marker lights turn off when headlights turn on
That is correct sequence for your lighting. Pull one notch for the lights in the hood to come on the pull to second position and the lights go out in the hood and the headlights come on. Owners manuals are cheap to buy and give a lot of info you might like to know.

Re: Front marker lights turn off when headlights turn on
That is the way these headlight switches work. There is a mod out there that will keep them on when the switch is all the way out. I dont have a link handy, but you can do a search on that.
Someone else may be able to post that link for you. BTW! Welcome to the forum!!

Re: Front marker lights turn off when headlights turn on
As I remember the mod, slave terminal 4 to terminal 7 on the switch to have the front markers work like a modern vehicle. The thread is on this board with good photos and instructions including the Terminal numbers to slave/jumper together in case my memory is flawed.

Re: Front marker lights turn off when headlights turn on
Thanks everyone for the help! This is the first time I've had this body style so I'm learning as I go. I found out that YES.. the markers are supposed to turn off when the headlights come on (feel kinda dumb but you don't know until you ask). I found a picture of the wiring mod to make them stay on. I actually just came back in the house from doing it and it works great! I'm not very good with computers so I'll try to get a picture of it up later. So far, that was the easiest part of the wiring I've had to deal with on the whole truck. Thanks again everyone for the help!
