Cheap fixes

I have a monthly truck budget. I usually blow my wad on something big at the beginning and then have 3 weekends worth of nothing to play with... Last month was LEDs, next month brakes, month before was new carb.

So theres always sanding and grinding on the body. ugh.

Throw other ideas out there on stuff that doesnt cost a lot of cash.

clean engine compartment
cleanup wires in engine compartment
body work
rustoleum paint job
window crank grease/oil? might cost money to replace parts though..
fix license plate light
uncrimp and replace with solder some of my wiring messes
polish wheels - going to replace them so dont really want to waste the time but its something to do.

-swaybar from the junkyard
-tighten ALL bolts on the frame or bumpers
-polish headlight bezels
-wire side markers to blinkers
-clay bar the paint job
-grease everything
-clean a/c and heater ducts out
-install a mesh under the cowl

good list. I just did the headlight relay and wired the sidemarkers as blinkers when i did all new LEDs.

while paint isnt exactly cheap... but painting brake drums/calipers control arms, tie rods all that small stuff makes a huge appearance difference even if its just painted black

good idea. all new brake hardware is in my shopping cart so ill probably spend the first weekend painting it up and install the next.

I'm going to be doing some suspension painting too. My brother thinks its a waste of time, but I really think it makes the truck shine. Especially since the engine enamel out of a rattle can holds up well and is pretty cheap around here.

I took brackets off and cleaned and painted them.A drill and wire wheel will make cleanup easier then degrease and paint.I have used brake clean to degrease.
Clean drains at the bottom of the doors.If you lay down under them with them open you'll see the drains.If you have the door panels off clean thru there also.
Paint the inside of the wheelwells.
Very fine steel wool works well to prep the interior surfaces for repaint.I even did a color change.Lots of masking required.
Remove and clean under floor covering,You can clean the carpet or mat well also.
Goop hand cleaner has worked well for me to clean ignition wires with.
Before doing anything else degrease under the hood.Don't use oven cleaner unless you plan on repainting.

Clean insides of all windows with glass cleaner

If you've got a cracked windshield or a rock chip in your line of sight, find a glass replacement company that'll waive your $100 comprehensive deductible, and get a new windshield and gasket installed

Cleaned and repainted my cluster a couple weeks ago. Then made some home made cup holders with light. (still have to finish cup holders) Not so much a budget thing here. It just that I am in a leg cast. I do have a laundry list of things to do. I want to go scrounging through the bone yards in Wilmington to see if I can find sway bar stuff and rear bumper next. I figured I will do some paint work in cab and finish up my cup holders next.

I am also planning on:
Herculiner coating the bed
Installing new valve covers I scored off my friend's crate motor
Painting air cleaner and other odds and ends in engine bay
Adjusting my front bumper
New thermostat and flush radiator
Tear apart heater blower, clean, lube and put back together
And I am planning on redoing all my brakes, installing a brake booster and painting underneath

i have a flush and fill kit and cant find a place to actually do it without being arrested and deported and beaten by vegans

That sucks. I'm an active duty Marine working M-F at a reserve center in East L.A. I just take my truck into the motor pool and work on it there. All the tools I need plus fluid stuff. Nothing better than servicing your transmission when you have all the right tools and drip pans.

This is my exact plan for today.

Also forgot to mention. If you have crud around the edges of your windows like I did grab a flat razor blade and carefully scrape it away. I had a bunch of build up around the bottom edges of the windows and especially on the vent windows. Makes it look a whole lot cleaner once you do.
