Re: Anyone ever make a tilt bed?

I've seen it done on 73-88 series trucks but I've never seen one on a 67-72. A 77 sold for cheap at a auction around me about a year ago. It had been to hell and back lol.

Re: Anyone ever make a tilt bed?

There are several companies that sell kits to do this!

Re: Anyone ever make a tilt bed?

There were kits for these going way back IIRC even J.C Whitney carried them. Shipping would be expensive but fitting a later model kit should not be a problem. But... one of the problems, especially with the homemade conversions, was the bed and cab alignment. All too often the bed sat higher due to a subframe for the bed. Plus the bumper needs to be addressed for clearance or mounted to the bed/subframe.
Here is a thread link and two of the auction pages for some reason I cannot write and save the pictures, probably my ISP again. If someone would post the relavant pictures it would help for the archives later.

Re: Anyone ever make a tilt bed?

Awesome ya I really want the bed to look normal when not lifted I just didn't know how much heavier these old beds are compared to the 90's style

Re: Anyone ever make a tilt bed?

Don't think there is too much weight difference. Ran the numbers for someone and came up with a 500 lb difference between a chassis cab and a fleetside LWB and 450 lb rear axle change so you should be OK.

Re: Anyone ever make a tilt bed?

I have one that I made into a bed trailer out of a 69 C20. When I go to the dump, I can see the disbelief from others when the bed dumps!

Re: Anyone ever make a tilt bed?

Its a home made setup with the pump/resoivor mounted to the frame and a scissor hydraulic ram mounted on the frame. I can't get pics right now because its 2/3 loaded for the next dump run. I posted some pics a couple of years ago on a pickup bed trailer thread. Maybe someone can find it.

Re: Anyone ever make a tilt bed?

Ive got one of those kits in my stuff. Had it on a 73 3/4 chevy before the body decided to rot away. When it was together it was awesome to have to go get gravel when needed or etc. When bed was down you couldn't tell the difference between a regular truck.

Basically its a big hinge that sets in the frame rails with a hydraulic cylinder. The pump can be one from a lets say a snow plow. I need to figure this one out so I can get it back working. I have a couple possible trucks I could put this on.
