Welder Recommendations?

Thank God I won't have a bunch of rusty repairs to make on the 69, but I will do some welding. Moving the gas tank, filling in marker lights, etc. I had a Miller five years ago and it was great. Anyone have a welder they would recommend? Would love your thoughts.

Re: Welder Recommendations?

I bought a Hobart 140 and Hobart plasma cutter about a year ago from Tractor Supply Company. They had 0% financing if paid for in six months at the time. I think it helped me leaps and bounds in learning how to weld..

I bought a 110V Lincoln WeldPak 100 about 10 years ago. Its still going strong. It turns down low enough for sheet metal, but I can weld 1/4" in one pass too. I build gym equipment, fix sheet metal, lawnmowers, exhaust, etc. It can only use flux core wire, which is fine with me since I don't want to mess with gas. Good for amateur home use. Doesn't have a real heavy duty cycle, but as fast as I move I've only had it trip out on me once or twice.

The new version is this: http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-5yc1...1#.URz-_HfYGSo

Re: Welder Recommendations?

I have a Miller Syncrowave 180 that I use for TIG and stick welding that is about 10 years old and I also have a Miller Millermatic 180 auto set for MIG that is about 2 years old. I love them both.

Re: Welder Recommendations?

I don't have pics or the model# handy but I really like my liitle Lincoln 110V.
I added the gas set up and wow! Have to have the gas. (IMO)
I'd suggest getting a good regulator as the base model reg. I got from Lincoln
is not adj. and uses more gas than needed. (from what I can tell)

My 2 Cents
  1. Miller
  2. Lincoln
  3. Hobart

Although I have a Lincoln. Whatever you do don't buy one of those harbor freight specials.

Re: Welder Recommendations?

I have the Miller 211 autoset, i love it.

Another benefit included is a multi-voltage plug that allows you to connect to common 120 or 230 V power receptacles with out the use of any tools.

Re: Welder Recommendations?

I have a Car-o-liner CM225 twin. It was purchased as a surplus unit from a local tech school. It's a nice piece of kit if you happen to see one in your area for a decent price.

Car-O-Linerīs CM220 Automotive MIG Welder has been specially developed for repair and construction of galvanized and primed high tensile steels in the automotive industry. In addition, it permits MIG welding of aluminium and high tensile steels.
