71 GMC 3/4 ton project
Just got this truck last week. It's a '71 GMC 3/4ton longbed with a rebuilt 350/350. I am just getting familiar with the 350 as all I've had is a 5.3L Vortec and 4.0 Jeeps. Story I was told was engine was rebuilt before parking it, all I can find is the latest registration from 95/96 and plate tags from '97. I was able to fire it up after adding fuel and adding penetrating oil in the cylinders. I currently have the carb off, everything looks good. It's got an Edelbrock intake and Carter carburetor that I rebuilt last night. I'm not trying to spend too much on it at the time but as I am not sure what plans I have for it. Really leaning towards an off-road baja type truck. Well on to the pictures.......

Re: 71 GMC 3/4 ton project
Working on getting it tuned up, so far I've rebuilt the car and added a little paint. Looks too shiny between all that rust, but the air cleaner should help hide it a little. Question for the experts, what is the linkage next to the carb for and where does it hook up(last picture)

That linkage is for transmission kick down cable, it hooks up to the very bottom hole on the arm where your throttle cable end is hooked up to. Looks like pin is missing to hook it up. Welcome to the board!!! Nice clean up of the carb.

Re: 71 GMC 3/4 ton project
That's the right spot, just needs pin and washer to hold it on now. Adjustment should be okay, it was just unhooked, it is normal to have that slack in it.

Re: 71 GMC 3/4 ton project
So just hook it anywhere on the linkage, I don't see any marks of where it was previosly.
