Problems when Shutting off engine Pick up
I have a 1968 C10 with a 350 engine. Lately when I turn the pick up off the engine clears its throat. Is this bad for the engine? How do I solve this?

Re: Problems when Shutting off engine Pick up
Is it like a sigh of relief and then a cough? It could be carbon buildup. I had one that started like that and then after a while it kept running or dieseling.
Causes can be due to bad or cheap "stop and go" fuel, timing problems or even overheating. If it's not timing or overheating, start by using fuel from the big companies like Shell, Exxon, Chevron, etc. Buy a couple of cans of gas treatment. I used Chevron but some others like Seafoam. Pour them into a full tank. You may have to do that at least two maybe three times. Some others use the old pouring gas treatment down the carb throat, but living in town, I couldn't do that.

When I turn the key off, the engine gargles and then clears its thoat loud. I will try to stick with one grade of fuel. I like to use 91 from costco b/c it's the cheapest 91 in town but I sometimes put 87 from shell and 87 from chevron. I'll try just putting 91 and the gas treatment. I have noticed that it happens after it is warm but my engine doesn't exceed 190 degres. |

Re: Problems when Shutting off engine Pick up
Clean your spark plugs, could be carbon build up causing it to diesel. Idle could also be set too high.
