Here are my plans and I've finally made up my mind and even like this idea more and more when I think about it.....I plan to move my body over to a short bed frame.....however.....I will be using the longbed sides......reason being I feel the shortbed is too short and the long bed is too long......I will shorten a section twards the front of the bed by about a foot or a foot and a half or so or whatever the amount so the wheel wells line up correctly....but I will keep the extra length in the rear to make it longer.....plus it looks really awsome with the longer rear behind the wheels.......anyone else tried this or seen it?.......I know I'm not the only one that thinks the short beds are too short and the long beds are too long.

Frigin Wicked Idea Dude !

I thought of doing that but I did not have enough time. You might be best to cut down a long box frame to fit the medium box.

hey longhorn........I know some guys that agree with you 100%.....and I know guys that say that their short beds are not short enough......trucks are like pants......everyone wears them to their own liking...........some like it loose......and some like it short.......some like it long......some like it tight(that's what she said)....by the way.....is the caddy engine runin yet?

Well, I'll say I love my short bed just as much as I do the Longhorns. Although, I am starting to see the "stubby" that all the long bed people talk about.
As for the caddy engine, I've fired it up, but I wouldn't call it "running" per-say.
Still at about the same point I was a couple weeks ago (look for thread named Andy said let there be torque) Needing a rad, exhaust, getting a broken bolt out of passenger side manifold (that's an update to the thread) and need to put the drive shaft together and a cooler plumbed.
After that I could drive it and work out bugs that I have not found yet. With no pipes or rad I have only fired it up a few times and only for a couple seconds at a time.
I have noticed I have a charging problem though.

Well longhorn......the stubby call is correct....it looks like the rest of the rear has been cut off......but look at this pic.....this truck isn't mine and belongs to another guy on this board.....but I shortend the front of the bed by a foot and this is what mine will look like to fix the "stubby" issue"....

I got a truck to haul stuff. You can put a lot more in a longbed. If I wanted a hotrod I'd buy a car. But then, thats me. Different strokes for different folks. No offense to shortbedders.

That doesn't look right to me. I would cut a longbed down to the length I wanted, cutting the same percentage out of each side of the wheelwell. As an example: Cut 4" (50%) out of the back quarter and 6" (50%) ahead of the wheelwell. Those numbers may not be correct. They're based on a 8"/12" cut Longbed to Shortbed. Just my opinion, but your welcome to it.

Jimmy.....it has to come from the front of the wheel well because the wheel wells have to lineup.

yeah - i'd agree. if i were a guy (i'm not), i would definitely go with a long bed, or something a little bit longer than a shortbed. but since i'm a girl

, i tend to think that the shortbed is "kinda cute" --- there i go bein girly again --- (of course, i own a shortbed)

Even though I am starting to see the shorties as stubbies, I still say they make better hot rods...esp if your talking about a short step.

how about this. I am transferring to a swb frame and have a long bed. was thinking of dissassembling bed and cutting the floor and reassembling with short fleet sides.

Something about it just doesn't look right with the wheels centered in the bedside. It may just be that I'm used to seeing them with the wheel located further back. A lot of times new things grow on me the more I see them. There was a time I didn't really care for lowered trucks but now I like them slammed. If you like it and have the skills to do it I say go for it.

Ya know, I can't keep from rolling back up to take another look at it. I think I like the look! Kinda makes people want to do a "double take"!
I've seen guys shorten long bedsides(skins) into short versions, and even seen a few long 4x4s "bobbed" to shortys BEHIND the axle to reduce overhang on the trail, but this mod kinda looks interesting!
Just for grins, somebody photoshop that same truck, only with a 6" bob behind the axle! He,He!

, I thought cutting the frame was an option for you. If you don't have the skills/tools/time, stick to the bolt on stuff. Longbed or short bed, not inbetween bed.
