A 3" chop on a small window but keeping the window opening the original size making it a "medium window?"

You know that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Loved the louver idea the first time I saw your truck!

Speedbump
Nice chop I don't know if I've seen cleaner lines

The burb has frenched headlights. smooth hood & running boards. 51 doors w/vent windows .Fooseed bumpers ,59 Caddy tail lights & molded rear fenders (not recommended, looks good but can be problematic)

Re: 47-59 Cool body mods

Nice Burb. I almost did the molded rear fender to get rid of the bolts in the bed but woosed out and used polished stainless buttonheads instead. So....
what's the problematic part? Cracking is what my thinking was when I decided against with no past info.

Youngrodder, every time I see photos of your truck more nifty little details come out that I missed previously. That truck is a true lesson in the concept that attention to details no matter how small they seem to be really counts and adds up in the total truck.

Thanks..for the feedback. The color is a custom mix. It took several tries to get it right.

Thanks. One of the lessons I learned in a college design class that has always stuck with me is less is more. I think that really applies to hot rods..

Re: 47-59 Cool body mods

Youngrodder, I noticed your bumpers are shaved. I plan on doing the same with the bumpers for my 52 chev 3100. My question is did you weld the bumper bolt from the back side of the bumper and then fill in the head when ground? and do they still bolt to the original brackets?

Joe--

Good eye...

That is how you would do it. I started out that route then I found this bumper at a car show for sale. It is made out of SS and it mounts to the factory brackets. My build was very long and I don't recall the name of the place that I bought my bumper from.

No cracking even when the F@#d 9 " rear bearings let loose at 75 mph !!
The axel slid out & cut the white out of the white walls !
With the static drop you have to raise the truck & loosen the shackles.
But the look is smooooth.

Re: 47-59 Cool body mods

every panel has been modified to some degree on truk
subtle: shaved: cowl vent, firewall, door handles, filler neck, trim, antenna
wild: bed, interior, airbrushed trim, remote filler door

Nice! I like the stainless fasteners you used? If I can ask a question, what size are the bolts you used on the cowl? Would you happen to know the size of bolts that hold on the fenders, running boards etc? Mine are a assortment of too small or none at all. Thanks!

FarmerSid--

The bolt size really varies by location. My running board supports are not stock and the bolts are specific for my set up. The bolts for the cowl are stock size (it escapes my at the moment what the size is). I just went to Fastnal and ordered a bag of various sizes of button head SS bolts, washers and nuts for what I needed.

I hope this helps.

Marc

I like the look of the rounded bed rail end on Kabwe's build. It really ties the end of the bed rail together nicely

I do too but it's more "custom" than my truck will ever be. I plan to cap the beds ends. Mar-K sells the caps pre made for $15 so I'm going that way. Still can't decide on using stock chains or not. I like the old timey-ness of them but they ultimately end up chipping paint.

Big Bertha has so much metal surgery that she is pretty much all custom.... I cant think of one panel that has not been re-configured.

I found some thin clear rubber hose to slide over the chains so I could keep them without chipping the paint. I'm trying to keep mine as original as I can, as far as component pieces go, but still do the proper upgrades along the way. I won't have any custom things done on the outside of my truck, it'll be just the same as it came from the factory, only lowered with some new paint and a whole lotta attitude.

Oh and Buggy, that truck kicks an immense amount of ass.
