Need some gas tanks

Well got my passenger side tank working and new sender, put gas in it, everything is working great, except the LEAK !!!!!! I need some gas tanks. Pros and cons of Metal or Poly tanks, I think I heard someone say something about... And where to find the poly tanks . LMC has the metal tanks, but can't find the poly.

Also LMC says LWB are 20 gallon and. SWB are 16. I have two tanks but I don't think they are 20 gallons, I think they are just 16. Also 87 has to have the baffle tanks ..... Do the poly tanks have baffles in them

Re: Need some gas tanks

Just get the replacement metal tanks. Yours made it 25 years. As far as I know there isn't a direct replacement poly tank, unless you want to put a fuel cell somewhere which is pointless and ugly unless you're racing in my opinion. Last time I bought a tank I went through Rockauto.com and got a great price, nice reproduction pieces. Yours should be 20 gallon.

Do you remember which brand you ordered from Rockauto that you were pleased with ?

I'm about to order a tank from them and they offer a couple of different brands.

That's a good price. I think I will crush my used ones and send them to the scrap yard with new ones available at reasonable prices.

Re: Need some gas tanks

Are Dorman tanks any good. Summit has them for $97 a piece. Goodmarks are $175. I was thinking about the Dorman tanks and then maybe putting some POR on them since I don't have the plastic covers and donn't know that I would put them back on anyway.

Re: Need some gas tanks

Check Rockauto first. They sell Dorman a good bit cheaper than that. Plus you can find a rockauto discount code to bring it down a bit more.

Re: Need some gas tanks

Just checked them out. They are $6 cheaper per tank. I just have to find a discount code and see what that brings it too. I will also need new saddles. Thanks

Re: Need some gas tanks

For the dorman tanks being $6 cheaper a tank and with the 5% discount it is still cheaper to buy through Summit. Rock Auto's shipping killed the overall price. This is for the Dorman tanks though. There are tanks as low as forty some dollars on Rock Auto. $205.85 verse $221.73

The tank was actually Spectre, for a '62 Nova and it came with the sending unit. Price and quality was good.

Thank you brother. I'm converting a 78 LWB to a short step and I need to order a 16 gallon tank. I've been mulling over which one to get from RockAuto.

Re: Need some gas tanks

Got my spectra from advanceauto so I could return if needed, had coupon and free shipping too. Tank was perfect and exact shape as factory, had no issues installing
