70 truck that I'm looking to buy./Finally brought home, pics attached
I'm looking at a 1970 one owner with 76000 original miles with a 307 pretty much stock except the rally wheels from a newer 4x4. This truck has always been in south Ga.

cab corners and rocker condition vs. your comfort level fixing/desire to fix if rotter vs. price? If it's a steal, it's a no brainer. It looks pretty nice. Beautiful hood patina!

Re: 70 truck that I'm looking to buy.
cab corners and rocker will likely need replacing. i don't know much else, especially about the 307. haven't seen in person yet. i've only talked to the owner briefly before he sent the pic.

$3,000, the guy says it just needs the brakes bled.

Looks pretty decent, paint looks like it'd shine up a bit and have a nice patina too! Go for it!

Re: 70 truck that I'm looking to buy.
$3K seems too high for "brakes need bled"... That probably is code for "brakes don't work". I'd look it over carefully before committing. Keep in mind that 307 is the bare minimum and this is only a custom - so, even though a swb truck (you'll definitely want to confirm the model number is a CE10734), there's not much else there to drive up the price. If a seller is too lazy to bleed his brakes... be wary. Ask me how I know... Ha. I'm STILL fixing the brake massacre my po left on my truck.

Re: 70 truck that I'm looking to buy.
I agree with Jocko, be careful. $3000 seems a little steep to me. Not going through the hassle of bleeding the brakes is worriesome for bigger issues. If he can't bother with that small project, has he kept up on oil changes, simple preventative maintenance over the years? That's 78,000 miles worth of "I'll get to it later".
Hell, he couldn't even air up the tire for the pic!!!

Re: 70 truck that I'm looking to buy.
3000 isn't all that bad in my books from what I see. I paid 1500 for mine put 1500 in it and it didn't look that good.

Re: 70 truck that I'm looking to buy.
I actually think 3K is reasonable for it (as long as it runs/drives well.)

Re: 70 truck that I'm looking to buy.
Guess value has a lot to do with supply and demand of our trucks. Up here a short fleet like that truck would bring 4500/5000.

Re: 70 truck that I'm looking to buy.
If you can hop in it, drive it down the road, yes 3k is fair. But, if you get there and can't, I'd say 2k.. And remember, rust is lighter than carbon fiber!

Re: 70 truck that I'm looking to buy.
I agree as stated above, if you can start it up and drive it I think 3k would be a good price. Will the engine acutally start?

Re: 70 truck that I'm looking to buy.
Thanks for the good advise, i will consider all this advise before comitting to anything. the guy hasn't advertised the truck, he told me he would sell since he didn't have a use for it anymore, you would still think he would have already bled the brakes if thats all thtas keeping him from driving it.

Re: 70 truck that I'm looking to buy.
Not really all that uncommon. This may not be the case, but some people buy classics that have none to very little mechanical ability or knowledge, try to fix stuff, but can't, don't want to or can't pay to get it done, it sits, their wife gets sick of seeing it... truck goes up for sale.. or... he's lazy?
What seems easy to a lot of us may as well be rocket science to others. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: 70 truck that I'm looking to buy.
For $3k, I don't see how you could go wrong. To me, I would replace the wheel cyls and brake shoes, bleed the brakes, radiator, plugs, wires, oil .. ALL of this anyway before I really drove it a lot.
$200 and your time gets you there, offer $2800 and throw it on a trailer to get it home. (air the tire up of course) .. Is the title good on it? The SWB fleet bed alone would bring $1000-$1200. Is it a wood bed? Trailing arms and coils or leafs? It's definitely worth checking out IMO. Dependable, slightly lowered , good title and a good cleaning you're looking at $5500-$6000 truck, easily.

Re: 70 truck that I'm looking to buy.
If the motor turns over (starting is better) and it's not a basket case then i'd show up with $2500 in my pocket and a trailer. Try to get it for less but cash in hand does a lot.
If there are 500 splices in the wiring, rusted floors and a family of mice living in the glove box then get below $2K or just walk away. I'm an expert on my own opinion, nothing more... good luck!

Re: 70 truck that I'm looking to buy.
Good luck with your buy, I'd offer 2500.00 max. Look around your area for some project somebody is selling on craigslist too. You might find a project truck that has more money dumped into than they are asking for. You'll be ahead of the game.

Re: 70 truck that I'm looking to buy.
i wouldnt give more than 2200 for it. and if he doesnt work with you on price there are others out there, the brake thing does make me wonder. seriously i wouldnt go more than 2500, id say bring 2200 in cash and let him see it when you offer, everyone has a greedy bone just gonna hit it.

Re: 70 truck that I'm looking to buy.
VIN number Also, look at the sticker on the inside lid of the glove box. The wheelbase should be 115 (SWB) 127 for LWB.
C E = The truck was originally a V8. If the VIN begins C S = originally a 6 cyl. 10734 means something, .. I'm just not sure. There's a way you can tell originally fleetside vs. stepside too, .. I just don't know what it is.
