gas in the truck

Does anyone have a problem pumping gas into your truck?? the nozzle at the station has to be in my tube at just the right angle and going just the right speed to even let me put gas in it, if they arent right, it just goes ''clunk'' and stops filling, over and over and over, it takes like a half an hour to put 10 bucks into my tank, this is really getting old, and i cant stand it, what would fix this problem?

make sure the rubber filler hose is not kinked under the bed
or something is not in there

it's like you almost have to make sure the nozzel is pointing str8 down. same with mine. but i can usually manipulate it in there so i can actually walk away and let it do it's thing while i run in to the store for beer.

i hate having to hold the damn nozzel when i pump gas - it's like i can feel the vapors killing my limited reserve of brain cells.

I found that when it does that, pull the nozzle out a little bit...this always solved to problem for me. I think you have the nozzle pointed to directly at the filler tube and the gas couldn't get out of the nozzle fast enough causing it to trigger off because it thought the tank was full. Hope that makes sense.

Yeah, what Jeff said My friends 74 was exactly the same way, you had to have the nozzle pulled out a little bit to fuel it up at a regular gas pump. We usually filled it out at his farm tho, it was cheaper that way

I used to have the same problems when I first got my truck... Add that to the fact that my gas gauge doesn't work! I have to keep track of how many miles I drive to know when to fill up.

Anyhow over time I learned how to angle the nozzle so it would flow. But no matter how well gas goes in, some always spills out everytime! That's usually how I judge when it's full.

Whenever I get gas, the attendant (we don't have self-service in Oregon, a rarity) has to stay and keep the nozzle trigger engaged. He said with the newer style nozzles being so sensitive, this has been a problem with our trucks.

Same here i live in oregon and when i get gas they have to hold it they get so mad if there is alot of cars i think its funny.

My truck is a little slow to fill at some stations;
It speeds up real good at a local station that recently put new pump nozzles on.
This tells me it is not the truck but the old worn-out nozzles.

I had exactly the same problem with my 84 truck, but it seemed to be worse at the station i usually went to, it was almost impossible to get gas in it, so i've started going somewhere else and it's not nearly half as bad, which makes me think its more a problem with the nozzles since i couldn't seem to find anything wrong with my filler tube or anything that would make it do that.

If you go to a place that has those damn rubber end on the pipe, it is useless! Go to a place that doesn't have that "vapor recovery system" on the end and go to a place that just has a nozzle.

Be cautious when/if not inserting the nozzle in all the way & using the 'hold down' latch on the nozzle. I did this w/my 68 & one time the nozzle popped out of the filler neck @ full flow spraying gas all over the interior of the truck not to mention the outside, the ground & finally me.

And . . .... is it me or was whoever that designed the height of the fuel filler location on 73 & later a short f**ker? What sucks to me is I have to squat down when putting gas in & now it will be worse since I lowered it.

Yeah, I think whoever placed the fuel door didn't have any legs.

The lower you go, the worse it gets. I look like a idiot filling it up. I've got in a habit just laying on the bed sides.
