wheel spacer, and np203 question
(np203 question)
My truck has an np203 installed by the previous owner. I changed the oil in it this weekend and it had a nice mix of water with it. I would like to run the vent tube into the engine bay incase of a water crossing. All I can find is that its in the top of the case(duh), and it is likely a threaded hole. Was wondering if someone has a picture of the top of one of these and could show me where it is. Thread size or any other info would be helpful as well. (wheel spacer q) I am having to run 1/2" worth of wheel spacers for my tire combo to clear my inner fender well. I have the gm rallys, 33X12.5. I have had problems in the past running spacers and wheels coming loose on other rides. This problem occurred on this truck. Short of replacing the wheels, anyone have better suggestions?

Re: wheel spacer, and np203 question
You could build a 14 bolt semi floater. It is six lug and came in the light duty 3/4 ton 99-98.

Re: wheel spacer, and np203 question
I would use the rubbing problem as a reason to buy a lift or bigger lift for it.

Obijuan, is that a wider axle?
69gwc. I have 2, 1/4" spacers on each side. They came with the truck. Andrew, it is already as high as I can go, and still put it in my garage. |

Re: wheel spacer, and np203 question
So are you running longer wheel studs then or longer shanked lug nuts.?
I know the 1" wide spacer us lug nut to hold them on and have studs for the wheel to attach to them with, kinda like the 1 ton dually have in the front. I would think with it have 2 small spacers on each side would be the issue as there would be greater chance of movement. Posted via Mobile Device |

Neither, still have factory studs. I planned to put longer in it.
I had some of the 2.25" "spacers" on my s10, which actually converted to a different bolt pattern. Still had them come loose also. |

Re: wheel spacer, and np203 question
I would imagine your lugnuts are not fully engaging all threads. This is dangerous. Those lugnuts can loosen themselves very easily. Buy the 1.25 spacers that bolt to the studs and be done with it.

Re: wheel spacer, and np203 question
Who sells spacers that will fit these?
I did a quick look online, and all I found were metric, and small hub. Also, is 1 or 1.25 the shortest we can run? I have not measured how far the lugs stick out. |

Uswheeladapters sells them, I have 1" spacers on my 69 and shorter and you have to install longer studs .

Re: wheel spacer, and np203 question
The 1" spacers come with lug nuts and bolt on, then they have lug studs in them to bolt the wheel to.

Re: wheel spacer, and np203 question
If you are happy with the current 1/2" of spacer in there, I would find a 1/2" spacer instead of stacking 1/4" spacers. How far do your lug nuts currently thread onto the studs? I like to leave at least the diameter of thread past an open ended lug nut. (1/2" thread = 1/2" of thread exposed past the fastener.) Less than that and swapping studs is in order.

Re: wheel spacer, and np203 question
69gwc, I understand that. But I dont see why I would need to install longer studs to put them on?
low. Um, I dont remember. I know they wont go past an open-end lug nut. Maybe 8-10 threads are grabbing. |

Re: wheel spacer, and np203 question
My studs are 1.25 long. My wheels ride in about the center of the stud as thats where they are chewed up from coming loose.

Re: wheel spacer, and np203 question
There is no strength to be gained by the amount of stud sticking out of the nut. Once you have full engagement of the threads of the nut, that's it.
That being said, I am not a fan of spacers anyway because they add leverage against the studs. The thicker ones that bolt on like adapters seem the safest to me, but they may be thickness than you need.

I would buy thicker spacers so you only have one per side and like was said the ones that bolt on like mine (like a adapter) seem safer But I think they told me you would need to run 1" spacers to get that type. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: wheel spacer, and np203 question
You want to get at least 8 full turns on your lug nuts, 8 full rotations, to give you the proper strengh you need. I've seen some spacers used with stock lug nuts that only let you get about 4 full turns, that's just not enough.
