HELP w tailgate linkage.

There has gotto be abetter way to hook up linkage. PITA..I know there isa secret code...what is it?

I wish I could help but I think these instructions are locked away in the CIA headquarters. I will be monitoring this thread as I would like to know this secret as well.

Dont worry about the hinges and get a buddy to help you if possible, especially if its already painted. Its best to practice on an old beat up one if you can! To install a fleetside gate, you have to install one trunion male to the bed and have one off. After the first one on, sit the other male on the corresponding piece on the gate. Next start installing the gate by sliding it onto the trunion half mounted on the bed. Then while your helper holds it, line up the holes in the loose trunion half with the holes in the bed and install the bolts. Have your buddy hold it or set a sawhorse under it while you install the linkage arms. DONE! I will install your gate if you will do my window regulators!

I tried to hook the rods on the handle first ,,then try and connect the latches to the rod..I cant keep all the rods in place at the same time. I know there is suppose to be plastic clips on handle end. Is there clips for the latch end???
One more thing..If both rods are disconnected to latches and the tailgate is closed..How do ya get it to open.
I powder coated my hardware for my on going Wal-Art projects.

"Having a buddy" is where I fall short. If I had help ,,I could get all kinda things done.. My Dad helps on occasion and If I get LUCKY,,my wife does what she can.. Most of what I do is SOLO!!
I dont like window regulaters....I went power windows..

I have never had the internals out of a fleetside. Did you take it apart? Part of my battle on my current build is rhe body shop tore the truck into a million pieces, didnt bag orlabel anything, lost numerous parts (some of which i bought from you!) and put things together out of sequence that i have to redo. Luckily i have parted a few of these trucks and know hiw they gi together.Good luck!

You'll need to pull the side latches and hook up that end first, then feed the rods through and hook up the hand latch, there are clips the hold the rods to the hand latch. I'll post up a few pictures later this morning.

Got it done!! when I turned my rods in the correct direction..It all fell into place...thanks for all the help.
