G body rear axle in a 55-59

Has anyone ever ran a g body rear end in a 55-59? Its 58 in drum to drum

I put one in a 58 a few years ago. It was out of a 79. It measured only about 1/2 in difference. There are some variations in the width through the years. It had the 4 3/4 bolt patern whiched matched the fronr as the PO had installed disc brakes with rotors that size. It was a pretty easy swap. A friend of mine is a welder. I got a pair of spring perches & bolted it all up & set the pinion angle. I marked the position & he welded them on. The 3.08 gear ratio was great.

I just finished the install of a 65 Chevelle 3.08 rear end. It's 1" narrower than the stock rear end and came with the 5 x 4.75" bolt patter to match the upgraded front disc brakes I installed. I bought the axle install kit from POL to accommodate the 3" axle tubes and it all went together easily

Cool! only thing i was worried about is the tires rubbing on the inside of the bed, guess i can run inch spacers if needed. I am going to install a mustang 2 and wanted the wheel base to match. Thanks again

keep in mind the 7.5" 10 bolt G body rear ends are quite weak

Ive ran them before in 47-54 trucks and never had issues with small blocks, again im just building a daily for work. I have a 61 impala that i restored to play with.

I haven't put one of those under a task Force truck but I think my buddy has put several under them when he stubbed the trucks.

I've got a rear axle out of a 76 Cad Seville (one of those that looks like an overgrown Nova) that I have kept for years that looks like a good candidate except I think the gear ratio is in the 2's and it has a big flange for the driveshaft to bolt to. It came out of a Seville parts car I had and has 11 inch brakes. I don't know how it compares in width though.

You can trim the brackets off the G body rear end and get a pair of Moroso spring perches like these at most parts houses that have speed parts catalogs. O'reilly's can get them overnight if they don't have them in stock. http://www.jegs.com/p/Moroso/Moroso-...63126/10002/-1 You can get the U bolts at most parts houses or 4x4 shop.
