Need help identifying tilt column spring

I got the CPP repro tilt column, and with the shift lever it came with this spring. However I can't figure out where it goes!

Could anyone please enlighten me on how and where to put this spring in at?

Thanks!

Re: Need help identifying tilt column spring

hard to tell because I dont have anything as a size referance. but assuming because it came with a shift lever I would say it is the spring that puts tension on the shift lever. if you are sitting in the truck and have the shift lever removed (along with the pin odviously) the spring would sit inside that opening a little more toward the cluster. One end rests in a pocket inside of the shift housing and the other end presses on the shifter. I just dissambled my column and could not easily remove my spring but I have had others that have fallen out once everything is removed. All of this is for an auto, I do not have any 3 on the tree shifter experience.

Thanks, John

That is the spring that snaps the shift lever back after you pull it, the spring is inside the tilt housing and it pushes against the base of the shift lever, if you look inside the opening for the shift lever you will see a spring and if you dont then you need to instal that one.

Re: Need help identifying tilt column spring

I set the spring into its location inside the column with a thick glob of grease to hold it there. then work the tip of the shifter into place while putting some pressure on the spring. Finally keep applying pressure to the spring and align the shifter with its locating pin and drive the pin into place. You might need a buddy to use a hammer and drive the pin down, but I have been able to do it alone before.

Thanks, John
