Cowl hoods

I was wondering if there was any good or bad opinions on the steel cowl hoods that are out there as far as fit wise. Is the fit on them good or bad and is there only one size cowl hood out there, only one i see is a 2 inch i believe. I am thinking of putting one on my 69 fleetside prostreet I am building.Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Very seldom is the fit perfect! But, with some time and effort in making adjustments you can get them pretty close.

I bought mine from LMC and it fit fairly good. The gaps arn't perfect but are close. I didn't care for the foam they use in place of the stock felt.

Thanks for all the help guys, one other question if I may, what kinda work is involved with it, is it cutting and welding type work or metal bending and working type stuff. once again thanks for everything!!

Most of the work involved will be working with everything in the front clip. Loosening, moving, adjusting, tightening, inspection-----then start over.

There are different mfger's some of them ae better than others. If its real bad, you may not get it really close.
Mine was close and I think I could have gotten it closer (?) but I decided to go old school and back to stock.

Ok thanks a ton, I was debating whether or not to do itbut not sure if I will or not, maybe when I get ready to paint and all the stuff comes off .

Be sure to fit it before you paint , it might take some time and several tries to wiggle, adjust----maybe even "massage" the fit.

How much "massaging" do the LMC truck doors need? Are they even worth buying?

I got the 2 inch cowl hood for my '67 from LMC. If I had it to do over I think I would call some vendors and see how their cowl hoods fit and the quality.

We did manage to get the cowl hood to fit ok, but not perfect, but had to do some shimming on the fenders and grill to get it to be ok.

I have seen two cowl hood heights, a 2 inch and a 4 inch.

I have a goodmark 2 inch cowl on my 88 1ton and it fits the best i have seen but looking closely it still is not perfect. For some reason the aftermarket just never seems to fit as good as original from hoods to doors to even weld in parts like rockers and cab corners. My 71 is in the middle of getting rocker, floor pans, cab corners and all the typical things that usually rust out on these pickups and none of them have been a perfect fit.

i made my own cowl hood with 2 stock hoods,,nothing fits better then stock

Actually when these trucks were new they was not a good line on them! JS!

Thats pretty darn nice for a home made cowl hood. Looks sharp!!
