Hello,
My name is Luke, im new to the forum and am gonna be building my first c10 pickup.sorry about the typo in the title, not sure how that happened.
I will try and get some pics up as soon as I get it home.picking it up from a friend of the family. Was running when parked 20 years ago. 1970 c10 shortbedpickup.
What motors were offered in 1970 ? I popped the hood and it had a smallblock chevy in it. I think ill be the 3rd owner. Needs paint, but body is in good overall shape, never in an accident. Seems like a good starting point. I know stuff out here in southern CA is always overpriced but I think I did ok on the price for it being all original and with so little body/rust.

Ive owned a number of chevys , 78' and 84' 4x4's, 69 camaro, 65 chevelle, 63 nova hardtop.
Current project besides the new truck is my custom chopped / airbagged 1949 ford
This seems like a great site, glad to be part of it

Plans for the truck will be make it mechanically sound, a lowering kit, new wheels /tires.
My 49 ford is way over the top on custom touches so with this one I want to make it a bit more subtle but enough to not look stock.

How easy is swapping a 1971 grille into a 1970 ? Ive always been a huge fan of that grille style.

Have any of you purchased a car that hasnt been registered for a lot of years (20+)
I was curious how that worked as far as trying to get it registered/transferred into my name.
A lot of time older people will have lost all the paperwork on the car so im curious how that goes.

Im curious to figure out what size small block it has in it.what were the various small blocks offered for a 1970 c10?? 350?

Welcome to the site.

For swapping a '71 grille into a '70, it is as simple as changing the support behind the grille that connects to the radiator support, I believe.

Welcome. Swapping the grille shouldn't be any problem as long as u have all the parts. Outter shell and inner grille.
Sorry can't help you on the registration stuff.
We need some pic of the truck though.

Welcome from your neighbor to the north. Could be a bit tricky to get registered, especially if you don't have the pink slip, or if it hasn't been registered for a number of years. California wants you to non-op if you don't plan on using it, otherwise they may want you to make good on 20 years of registrations. I guess it deepen what you can supply them. Worse case scenario, you can part it onto a truck that the registration is up to date, since you're gonna do mods anyways. Good luck and looking forward to watching your project!

I should be goin by the house where the truck is soon. Ill have him search for the title/pink slip.I think he does have it, now ill just have to find out if he non op'd it. Maybe I can get a break on the price to cover back fees if they are there.

Im looking forward on something more straight forward, than my shoebox.
No air ride for this truck, I like it on trucks but think a static drop will be enough.
Whats the biggest drop kit you can run with 20 inch wheels? I am thinking something clean/simple similar to torque thrust II's

Here she is, I snapped a few quick cell phone pics today when i was at my godfathers house.as you can tell the truck is dirty /has been sitting.believe it or not its VERY straight, interior is complete, definitely not a head turner but will be once im done.

The step rails , bumper guard, back bumper will all be removed as soon as its officially mine. Going to put a lowering kit and wheels on after body/paint.

Interior should be easy . Now heres a question:
It has 3 on the tree , and I want to make it an automatic shifted on the column.how difficult is that?

Im assuming the smallblock (original motor) is a 350? Or did they offer various size small blocks?

Oh I meant to ask, ive had all cars. How tough to get the cab/bed off?
A buddy runs a paint/body place so he said he'd help and I could use the rotisserie and pretty much whatever after hours.

Trying to draw out a checklist of which order to tackle things.

Welcome from Oklahoma. Love me some Ojai California I used to live in the Ventura/ Santa Paula area. Used to play golf in Ojai one one of the most beautiful courses. The cab comes off real easy four cab bolts unplug wire harness and e-brake cable and steering column should be about it.

Cool...good luck with the truck!

I'm not sure when Chevy went from the 327 to the 350...it's probably a 350. You should be able to figure out what it is from the # stamped on the deck in front of the passenger side head. There's lots of info out there.

There are also lot's of steering columns out there...you should be able to find what you need. Lots of guys go with floor shifted automatics.

Hahah maybe this one is repayment for all the nightmares and headaches from the chopped/airbagged 1949 ford im building.im looking forward to something more straight forward .
No air ride this time just whatever the largest lowering kit I can do.
I will start doin some research on columns. Im up in the air on using the stock motor but it ran fine and didnt have any issues when parked so maybe with some TLC she will be good to go.
Not goin crazy goin for HP on this one, more focused on a real clean custom truck.
Ive got a 1955 chevy gasser im building so that one can suffice when it comes to my need for speed haha

Haha change of plans, full air ride suspension. Gonna get the factory motor/tranny dialed in and do the brakes .make it sound to drive, and do the full air ride on it. Hold off on the body/paint . Roll it with a little of the original paint patina for a bit :-)
Haha oh and put wheels /tires on it
The white steelies, and current tires would be a bit funky after its bagged lol
