Steering column
So my tail lights, brake lights and turn signals in the rear work intermittently at best. I have chased down all grounds, checked fuses to no avail. I believe the problem exists in my steering column with the turn signal switch. My column has an extraordinary amount of play when shifting from park to drive etc. So I was going to replace the rag joint and column. Enter my budget! I promised the wife this would be a slow build and have reached the end of the allowed budget for now! Does this column here look to be decent? Is this going to turn into a you get what you pay for issue? Looking for any input here as I am brand new to this whole project.
I have a '66 short box with a th350 auto(column) and a 305 V8 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-Day-Blow-O...c8e973&vxp=mtr Thanks for any help Jason Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Steering column
I have nearly the identical column. The only difference is mine is bare not chrome. ('60 1 C30 Panel) Its an excellent column. I love that is a tilt.
It is a basic column. Its not fancy. Definitely not on the level of an Ididit, but absolutely on par with a factory column. |

Re: Steering column
Woog, the turn signal switch is new from when I did a painless kit. I have been wanting a tilt column for a while as I am 6'4" and think it could make the drive a little more comfortable.
Space, thanks for the review, I think I will jump on it. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Steering column
Are you saying that the steering wheel and shaft move side to side and up and down??? Sounds like the upper and lower bearings are trashed if so--
As far as the electronics--you need to probably start isolating specific circuits to take resistance and continuity checks-- Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Steering column
66jax----bought a non column shift (floor shift 32") tilt raw metal from the same seller. definitely not the quality of ididit or flaming river (have had both). my only b$$ch is you can move the steering a little (up & down) in the different tilt positions and my stock steering wheel doesn't fit perfect--gap between wheel and column more than normal. don't know if i can make the horn work yet as my truck is stripped. good deal for the price though. I also slid the column down as far as it would go for more leg room.

Re: Steering column
Ok. This is very informative. I have 66 c10. Is that a 32" column? Is it possible to replace the wiring inside the column easily?

Re: Steering column
Just keep in mind you might have to buy a steering wheel for a 9 bolt mount to go with the adapter supplied with this column... I wanted to go with a Mooneyes steering wheel with the standard GM 3 hole mount and adapter but their was a big gap between the column and adapter which was an eye soar....

Re: Steering column
you can see the gap in post #7 not bad but could be better. mine came with the adaptor as a bonus. all the 9bolt wheels are custom looking as my truck will be stock or close to it.
