Re: axle??

What is the reason for your question. That might be able to clear things up a little. Are you looking to switch rear ends or something?

Re: axle??

ok yes I am looking at a swap.I have 1968 2 wheel drive that is making alot of noise.
POL make kit to put the 1973-87 rear end into the 1968.My 68 has 6 lugs and I was look for a better gearing 3.73 is way to many RPMs.And There is only two gears for the 6 lug that wouls be a bolt in.3.73 or 3.08.The 3.42 with the tire size that I have would work for the overdrive trans that I am going to put in.Thanks

Re: axle??

Assuming the overdrive you are going to is in the .70 to .73 range, and assuming a "normal" sized tire (P235/75R-15 or so) I would recommend the 3.73 axle ratio.

I would guess the 3.42 is not enough axle with the overdrive (unless you are using a teeny tire).

Have you looked into rebuilding your current axle? What kind of noises is it making?

Re: axle??

Knowbody that I would trust around here.Rear has a lot of play in it and it growls. After I posted this I found a Calculator Looks like the 3.73s would be better.
