1949 1/2 ton vs 1950 1 ton

Are there any size differences to the body parts or are they interchangeable? I guess a better question are the fenders, hood, etc interchangeable between these trucks?

I believe there will be multiple body panels that are different. I know for certain that the front fenders are different.

That's what I was afraid of. Thanks. I'm more concerned about the hood though. And I can't find the dimensions anywhere.

Personally I thought the changes did not occur till 1-1/2 ton. I might be wrong though!!

That could very well be. I thought it was at 1 ton, but I guess I might not be as certain as I thought I was.

I thought the 3100-3800 sreies where the same.

im pretty sure mine is a 1 ton and its a 49 but the hood is different, its flat where it should be rounded where it attaches to the cab and they are completely different sized hoods. seach this site someone else asked similar question and theres a pic of the 2 compared on top of eachother

I think you may have a 1.5T, or it may have been changed at some point. My 3/4 ton and 1 ton are the same. As I understand it, 1.5T and up have the shorter hood sides and large wheel openings.

Post a picture and we'll tell you. If it is a 1 ton (3800) the sheetmetal will be the same. My truck is/was a 1 ton (3800).

Yes, 1/2 ton and 1 ton sheet metal is the same.

Thanks yall, I really appreciate the insight. I'm going to start a 1949 3100 (that is not in very good shape), and my buddy's grandpa has a 3800 that he's going to let me part out. That was the main reason for the question.

look at the back of the hood where it meets the fender. if it has a sharp point its the bigger hood.
If the edge is round as the 1/2 ton is then its the same.

fenders are bigger in the 1.5ton trucks so they come up on the hood a little different.
thats why the hood is cut different in the back.

all cabs are the same, just some different bead rolls in the firewall, as i have found.

Bare cab wise 47/48 are the same 49/50 are the same and 51,51 & 53 are pretty well the same.

47/48 have the cab under the bed of the truck like Suburbans and have an inner panel wrapping around the back of the cab that adds support for the body mount that is in the middle rather than the two mounts on the sides.

49/50 went to the tank in the cab but still have the cowl vent on the driver's side of the cab.

51/53 don't have the cowl vent on the driver's side.

The fender and hood break comes at the 1-1/2 ton. it also uses the big ribbed bumper. The quick way to tell if you see a truck sitting is look to see what front bumper it has. The 1 tons have the same bumper as the half and 3/4 tons and also have the same hood and fenders.

Come to think of it I had my 1/2 nose sitting on my brother's 1 ton dualie for a period of time when we had towed the dualie (Flatbed 1 ton that my grandfather bought new in 1948) to my house to store it for a while. I've got a photo of that somewhere. I'm pretty sure in swapping body parts to replace some of the sheet metal that my grandfather had dinged up over the years we put several pickup pieces on the truck.
