is close enough good enough?

I'm building a 49 chevy on an s10 frame. I'm currently in the process of mocking up the body. ive got the cab mounts made and tacked in place but i'm starting to notice when it comes to the body nothing is quite the same from side to side. the truck I started with was in very good shape for an unrestored truck so i dont think its wrecked or anything. so when it comes to lining things up and comparing side to side whats good enough? i know i should be as exact as possible but is it more like get it close and make sure it look right by eye? or is it move and adjust until its perfect? (I know door gaps and stuff will need to be uniform)

Re: is close enough good enough?

I just did one on an S10 frame. My crucial points were between the outside of the framerail, and the cutout on the bottom of the back wall of the cab. I measured from frame to the front edges, but it wasn't perfect (off by about 1/4" if I recall). I think the frame may change width slightly in the front, I know the pass side rail is thiner than the dvr. side. I try to go for exact, but will fudge it slightly for asthetically pleasing. just my .02

Re: is close enough good enough?

I've never done one, but I would find the center line of the frame and the center line of the cab and align them so the front clip and bed also end up center the long axis. cab front to back is set by the front fender opening, there is lots of info on how to locate that in the build thread section, I would get the cab and fenders in place before final welding.

cool, Good luck on your project. Any questions on anything we've done, feel free to ask. I know I relied on others builds and knowledge to make this one come together.
