Cost of total rewire by mechanic?

Alright. I have a '69 GMC truck with a 292 its the most basic version. So how much would it cost for a total rewire of the truck? The wire in this is done for and I don't have enough time to do it myself. I'm in Nebraska if the price makes any difference lol. Thanks! Anyone reccomend kits for it?

Well, you can get a stock style wiring harness for $699.95 from LMC (36-3599) and a shop would usually charge hourly (give or take $95 and hr). Your looking at a solid days worth of work for a well paced mechanic. Possibly 2 if they aren't fast paced. so thats $1459.95 give or take and hour or two.

Painless makes a c10 kit you can get off ebay or through distributors between $3-500. Some amount of time if not more.

hope this help. In reality I would buy the painless kit (better fuse set up and more inputs) and do it yourself whenever you get time. Remember its not something you should rush through, take your time and save money.

You say you don't have time to do it yourself but trust me it doesn't take alot of time to repair what can be repaired and replace what can't, trust me when I tell you the wiring in these old trucks isn't complicated, a monkey could do it, and you will save yourself a TON of money.
First assess the damage, if something has a special connector that is damaged you will need to replace it, or to save time but not money replace the entire section of harness, for the wiring that can be fixed you will need a industrial soldering gun, flux core solder, heat shrink gun and tubes, an assortment of connectors, wire stripper and a all-in-one crimping tool. Buy all this stuff from harbor freight the quality is good enough to do the job once and right, and remember to take your 20% off coupon to use on the soldering gun.
However if you decide not to do it yourself which would be a huge mistake, find yourself a mom and pop style electrician that has been in business for 20 years and have them do it they wont charge you nearly as much as the big boys.

I am going to rewire mine myself. I have done everything else. So it takes me a while. It is only time. I will know that there is no short cuts anywhere. Anyway I love to do things myself and save a ton of money. Gdavis from Florida

Do it yourself. It's an easy process, just time consuming and you can take pride in knowing you did it. I'm doing a 71 truck over now with the American Autowire kit. It allows me to integrate the stock kit with the fuel injection wiring harness.

Thanks a ton guys. I'm goingbtondonit my self so I know nobody took any shortcuts. I was looking at my wiring and its very simple. Does anyone know where I can get a diagram of the wiring? I looked and the spring up front is pretty good. The wiring that runs to the taillights theres 4 wires. Then have butt splicers in between them. And 2 of them are disconnected. But when I pull the switch for the lights the passenger rear light comes on. But the brake lights arent working. Thanks!!!

I have rewired a few rebuilds, its not bad.

I use the E Z wire generic 21 circuit wiring harness. This harness is much cheaper in cost than a truck specific one. Every wire is labeled, wires are plenty long and it comes with good instructions on how to localize wires before you start. You will need to do some splicing in order to use your factory connectors. Take your time and plan the job before jumping. Should take about a days time to complete.
