Re: Finally...something that will work for me!

I have already removed the bug shield and the running boards. I will be putting the 454 from my '89 Suburban on it('burbs roof is rusted pretty bad). I will also be changing the interior from Doeskin to blue, also from the Suburban.
The shell will be coming off. I would also like to use the 40g tank from the Suburban and use the saddle tanks as auxiliary tanks...fill them up and have them re-fill the 40g rear tank. I dont want a bunch of hoses and return lines running all over the place. That should give me approx. 80g of fuel capacity.
Not sure if I want to use the TBI thats on it('burb)or put a carb back on???
I've got my ideas,so stay tuned.

I know I get stuff all the time and post it up with some excitement, but in all reality, I NEED a 4dr truck and the price was right on this one!(almost FREE!)

Looks like a real solid truck, the price you paid was an added bonus.

Love it man. We have the same interior. However yours looks nice and mine is ratty. Same color though. Can't wait to see what you do with it. I have an 800 CFM quadrajet if you go the carb route. I ordered it from Ebay and it needs a rebuild but its your for the drive if you want it. If I had it to do over I would have gotten a cheap used quadrajet and a bunch of block off plates and used the stock intake. But as it sits I am waithing for the only intake made for our peanut port big block trucks from wieand on back order for another week.

Thanks! Let me know when you get your intake and how you like it. Does it have EGR?

Re: Finally...something that will work for me!

Sounds like an interesting project. Why would you want to go back to a carb? I was never a fan of injection until I got into the systems on trucks like yours. There's a good chance that it has a 1227747 computer in it. It is really tunable. I would keep the injection if it were me. Heck, if you get it tuned, you might make it past the 6th gas station! LOL.

Re: Finally...something that will work for me!

Thanks everyone! I talked to a California state smog referee today about putting the TBI from the '89 'burb on the '85. He said NO PROBLEM,it would be considered an UPGRADE and I DO NOT have to run a catalytic converter. But he did say if I want to get an exemption, put a diesel in. Wont need any documentation because they dont even mess with that old of a vehicle....just do the swap, take it to him and he will give me a sticker and exemption form to take to DMV...DONE!..maybe I will go that route.

Diesel would definitely work!! What are you thinking? Cummins? 6.5? Detroit?

Re: Finally...something that will work for me!

in all honesty, I was thinking a 6.9 and t19 or ZF 5spd. These are still plentiful around here. The Cummins is too expensive and the 6.2/6.5 kinda scare me,it's kind of a crap shoot to find a crack free block.

Yeah,it sure seems that way sometimes...but there are still some good guys out there that appreciate any type of build.

really ? I was think'n the opposite, that the stock/original truck get the most attention. I see a lot if modification bash'n on here. Dually Scene on the other hand seem's all about the slam'd on 22's (like mine).
I like em either way, I just cant leave my stuff stock (girl friend hate's it).

Manimal, Look's like a good start, look'n forward to see'n more.

Re: Finally...something that will work for me!

I'm planning on Belltech drop spindles and rear hangers/shackles. I like the Alcoas(16" will go on for me). I like the slammed look too,but for my needs a simple lowering will suffice.
Kinda sucks that within the last year I have had everything I want now to make this truck the way I want it.......diesel,cowl hood, drop spindles, rear hangers/shackles
