lwb 1 piece driveshaft
Is anyone running a 1 piece driveshaft in a long wheel base. If do who made it or where can I get one, also what if any alterations were made to the center cross member?

Re: lwb 1 piece driveshaft
I ran one on my old 69. Just removed the carrier bearing and replaced with a one piece custom made for under $200 with new ujoints.

Re: lwb 1 piece driveshaft
I figured someone had done it, my truck is lowered 3/5 so I wasn't sure if the carrier bearing removal would give enough clearance. Do you know the diameter of your driveshaft?

Re: lwb 1 piece driveshaft
Don't remeber but thinking back I ran a one piece on two LWB trucks. The driveshaft shop will know what diameter you need.

Re: lwb 1 piece driveshaft
I've made quite a few, tubing diameter is 3.5" no mods required. Reusing your old trans yoke will save you some money.

Re: lwb 1 piece driveshaft
Wouldn't the smaller ujoint on the back of the trans yoke be really weak compared to the rest of the drive shaft due to its small diameter?

Re: lwb 1 piece driveshaft
Ujoint might break if you have slicks and a trans brake and are pushing 500+ hp.
Driveshaft will fail at high speeds 120mph+ due to the diameter limiting crossmember. So is one stronger than the other? Who knows.. Id imagine if you had infinite power and traction and slowly applied torque you might be able to twist the tube, but not a real world scenario. We build stock car shafts 500hp with the same kind of pieces that our 2 piece drivelines are made of. 2x.083 dom tubing with 1310 joints and we drill a 1.5" hole in the center of the weld yokes to lighten them up a bit. I have never seen one fail that wasn't hit with something during a wreck. We even use hollow cross greaseable ujoints. For a normal street/strip/towing truck use some good spicer life (5-1310) ujoints and have a professional build your shaft and forget about it. Its good enough for my truck.
