Been thinking about purchasing a car hauler to pick up the projects around the shop. Found a good deal on a 1985 Chevy on craigslist has a 350 in it with an auto trans, I was thinking about buying this & putting a cab of a '47-'54 Chevy on it, give it that classic look to haul cars around

wondering if anyone has done this before? if so what all is involved, what needs to be modified, how hard is the swap..etc photos will help as well

The front suspension is a little wider than the AD trucks, but the 1 1/2 ton AD cab/chassis cabs are plentifull and cheap. they also have a wider and longer front clip that would "fit" or look a little better than a 1/2 ton cab. Go for it!

Have you ever seen an episode of Counting Cars? That's one of those spin off shows from Pawn Stars. The guy from the show has one done like what your talking about. Its pretty cool.

nope haven't seen that show, but sounds cool, I'll see if I can find some pics online

I've been looking on Craigslist for a 1 ton truck in Michigan for cheap but no luck, have found a 1947 Ford 1 ton & a 1951 Ford 1 ton both very clean full trucks & good price so may go that route if I don't have any luck with the Chevys..not sure on width or anything on the Fords though

Look at motorhomes too. Low milage, big blocks and with rot damage, cheaper than a 1 ton truck. They will also have the frame rail length you are looking for.

Half, 3/4 or 1 ton fenders and hood would work but I think the 1-1/2 nose would be a better fit with the big wheel openings and longer nose. The cabs are the same though.

At lest you could buy that one, use it and then take your time deciding if you wanted to swap cabs and then have time to slick the cab and nose out and paint them before doing the swao.

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
